No updates on Kai. Ethan was still passed out beside him. Even after a few nudges, Cal couldn’t quiet wake him. He pulled out Ethan’s phone and decided to call James.
He opened the screen and Ethan’s background was a picture of Max sleeping. It wasn’t by any means creepy. She looked at peace. She never truly seemed like she was fully relaxed, so he could see the sentiment behind Max’s restful face. She even smiled a little.
Not dwelling on it longer than appropriate, Cal called James.
“What’s the news, Ethan?”
“It’s me, we’re at a hospital.”
“Where.” It was all he needed in order to get wherever Cal was. He wanted nothing but to support him with whatever was happening with Kai.
