Colonel White sat behind his desk. Next to him sat Lieutenant Colonel Gibson. There were three other chairs; two were occupied by Majors Garland and Adams, the third by Lieutenant Crow.
“Alright gentlemen, let"s get started. Lieutenant Crow, you were detailed with twenty-six men to form a scout unit. How is it that one week into a four-week training mission you engaged 100 Confederate Cavalry?”
“Well, sir, it didn"t take me long to see that the men assigned to me were all experienced troopers. I had overheard that Lee might be moving north and I figured he would send out scouts ahead of his army. So one night, I rode out to see if I was right.”
