The Pack, as they now called themselves, stood at attention while Captain Crow, followed by 1st Sergeant Stump, inspected each man"s horses and equipment. The Henry rifles that they had been issued hung from a scabbard mounted on the saddle. By now, each man had four pistols, two mounted on each side of the saddle, and two carried on his belt. On the right hip was the Bowie knife. For inspection, they wore their cavalry boots, but when they trained or were on the move, they now wore moccasins. Crow turned to Stump, “They all look good. I"m impressed with the care of their horses.
