It had been five weeks since the threat on Washington when Crow was told to report to Colonel White"s office. White looked up from his desk when his new aid, Lieutenant Derby, announced Captain Crow had arrived. Crow entered the office, centered himself in front of White"s desk and said, “Captain Crow reporting as ordered, sir.”
“At ease, and take a seat. I have new orders for you.” Crow sat in the offered chair and waited. “How are your wounded? Are you at full strength?”
“The current wounds are not life-threatening and only one trooper sees the doctor for new bandages. I have not yet received replacements for the four men I lost in the ambush.”
