When Stump entered the tent he shared with Crow, he found him sprawled in a chair reading. Stump went to the officer"s chest and removed a bottle of whiskey and two glasses. Holding up the glasses, he said to Crow, “Sir?” Crow looked up and held up two fingers. Stump placed the glasses on the desk and filled each glass with two fingers of the amber liquid. Picking up the glasses he went to Crow and handed him one. Absently, Crow took the offered drink while he continued to read. Stump sat down and took a sip from his glass and waited. Crow finished reading, and then clutching the papers in one hand, he drank from his glass, draining it. Stump had never seen Crow do such a thing.
