Crow had led his men into a large wooded area near a stream, telling them that they would stay there for a few days of rest. In their encounters of the last couple of months, no one had been severely wounded. Morale was high, and before burning a Rebel warehouse, they had confiscated enough supplies to replenish their own. Pickets were out, and a two-man team of scouts was always coming or going keeping an eye on their security.
