Crow"s scouts had been casting back and forth when they came across a regiment of Union cavalry. The scouts rode up to the commanding officer and saluted. The senior scout said, “Good morning, sir. We are with The Wolf Pack, led by Captain Jedidiah Crow. We have cast for several miles in that direction and have made no contact with the enemy.”
Returning their salutes, the commanding officer replied, “We"ve heard of some enemy movement from a group of escaped slaves. They saw one small force of around fifty and a larger force of perhaps two hundred. We"ve been trying to locate them.”
“We haven"t come across them, sir; "leastways not yet.”
