Crow led the men out of Washington, DC. They had traveled for the better part of the day when Crow spotted a wooded area near a stream and decided to make camp there. “Smitty and Billy-James, cast about and check the area,” said Crow. Without question, the two men immediately rode off.
Crow moved into the trees and dismounted. “Let"s string a line for the horses here. We can water and let "em roll and feed on some of that grass before we tie "em.” The men unsaddled their horses. Four men led the horses to the stream for water while the rest of the men unloaded the pack animals.
