The wagon train was three days from Fort Laramie and Crow was making a quick recovery. He had been unconscious for more than a full day when he awoke in the night. First, Crow felt the pain in his back and in then his side. When he tried to move he found a warm body against his back. That"s when he realized an arm was under his arm and across his chest.
“You"re awake,” said Kenna, as she slowly withdrew her arm.
“Where are we?” asked Crow.
“In the back of my wagon, I had them bring you here. Tala removed the bullet. That was yesterday.”
Crow thought a moment and then asked, “What about Jenkins and his wife?”
“They were both killed in the attack.”
“My men?” asked Crow.
“They are all safe. Three were wounded but nothing serious. You and your men saved us all. How do you feel?”
