The day was beautiful. The birds were out and about. The dogs barked happily and vehicle brakes could be heard. Nebula turned up her face into the morning sunlight as she walked around the corner after work the next day. She even hummed a tune. Today was a perfect day. She was happy with everything. Even when the cat had thrown up on her favourite jeans, she didn’t get upset.
She grinned widely as her apartment complex came into view. She ran up the stairs singing. Showered singing. Dressed and putting on light makeup and still humming. Her father was watching her movements, from his seat by the couch, taking note that his daughter was never this happy. She had been grumpy almost every day, for the past two weeks, since he had been here.
