Jamie's gaze locks onto me, his eyes narrowing. My lips wobble as I try to find words to redeem myself. But none comes. All that makes it out of my mouth is a puff of air. I look down at Sandy, her own hooded eyes looking back at me. Kiki is frozen in her spot, dumbfounded by her own recklessness.
“Boss? What do you mean “boss”?”, Jamie asks, surprise, curiosity and suspicion swirling in his voice.
A hint of betrayal flickers across his face. And I know that I’m in deep trouble. But it’s too late to go back now. It’ll be futile to come up with any other lies. Kiki and I exchange knowing glances. The silence grows, irking the man even more.
