CHAPTER EIGHT - One Last Mess* 1 * Maddy lifted the newspaper. “Oh Jesus Christ.” The goddamn flies had grown a whole crop of bouncing baby maggots, sucking on what brains that Vic had left behind. Maddy puked on the table. The maggots loved that. It was like maggot manna from heaven. She wiped her lips and breathed slowly, through her mouth. It was all Vic’s fault. The bastard was always leaving messes behind. Dirty plates. Teacups stained piss yellow. Apple cores tucked in the couch, beer bottles by the easy chair and chip crumbs on the mattress. “Not no more.” Not no more, but he sure had left a hell of lot of brains.
