It had been almost half a year since the small sector of Darby arrived in the Iceheart wolves of Alaska. Alpha Benjamin was a kind-hearted man. Many of his wolves hadn't seemed aggressive towards them, but Gavin always wondered if it was because of the females he traveled with. For the time before Luna went into labor, Gavin was helping supervise meetings, get-togethers, and even setting the twins up with preschool. He got to know the Icehearts and even made a few friends.
However, as the months got colder, Gavin found himself staying inside with the kids more often. His and his mate's room is right beside Luna's. He knew the alpha female was mentally wrought, and even suggested her staying with Gage while he stayed with the kids. He didn't understand the anguish of losing a mate, and he hoped he never would.
The sound of a child's cries brought Gavin from his thoughts. The past few months have been in his mind daily, but today he didn't get that luxury. Standing from his chair, the strawberry blonde turned toward the crib that held the crying child. It wasn't one of the alpha's kids, which he figured was a good thing. Walking to the crib, he bent down to lift the upset pup. His sapphire blue eyes took a glimpse at the child before he inhaled and found the reason for its cries.
Carrying the child to the changing table, he undone its onesie and proceeded to change its diaper. Looking down at the little bundle he sighed. “You have your mother's eyes.” He lifted the child and moved back to his chair. Sitting down, he placed the small child in his lap and returned to what he was doing.
The doorknob to the room began to rattle slightly before the door slowly began to open. As it opened, a girl with red curly hair poked through to see what was going on. It didn't take much before the twin boys running around found themselves looking at the door. Just as she stepped in, Jamie watched as they both began running at her. “Hey, guys. Are you having a good time?” as the twins began rambling about their day, the exhaustion she was trying to hide began showing a bit. Her eyes then looked up at Gavin and it was almost as if her exhaustion didn't matter anymore. “Seems like they had a good time.” Was all she said as she made it away from the twins once they were distracted.
Gavin heard the door open before the rambling of the twins and chuckled at their consistent talking. His eyes were bright as he stood and walked to Jamie. She looked as if it was her laboring, and he shook his head. “How is she doing?” He held their child in one arm only to caress his mate's jawline with the unoccupied hand.
Her head seemed to move in his direction as he touched her. Although her face didn't seem very happy about the question. “Well…. She had a baby girl…. But the baby looks a lot like Sam. So you could probably imagine.” Jamie’s finger began wiggling at their baby, which caused her to smile a bit. “She'll probably need help for a while. Just need to keep her from getting lost in her head so much.”
“We can do that for her.” He smiled and kissed Jamie softly on the lips before handing the baby to her. The fussing of Marceline caught his ears and he sighed. “Gotta change the Princess.”
Jamie took the baby and began giving her a mountain of kisses on her cheek. After playing with the baby for a few seconds, she smiled and looked up again at Gavin. “She also told me to tell you to send Chloe and Vironica the letter. Now that the baby is born she doesn't want to waste any more time.” Jamie would have preferred the alpha to take some time to heal. However, with how she had been, there wasn't much stopping her.
Gavin winced and shook his head as he changed Marceline's diaper and put her in a onesie. “She needs to grieve and heal before going after them.” His blue eyes went to Jamie as he sighed. “She isn't thinking straight.” Once he was done, he put Marceline on the floor so she and her older brothers could play. “I'll wait til she's out of the hospital. Three days won't hurt.”
“I’ll let her know but if she gets mad at me, it’s your problem,” Jamie spoke as her finger was being held hostage by the baby. The redhead began to yawn a bit and turned to try and keep the baby away from it. “I hate to make you watch the kids longer by yourself, but I am in desperate need of sleep. Staying up all night is exhausting.” She gave a bit of a smile before walking to the baby's bed to put the baby down.
“Don't apologize for sleeping baby.” He smiled and picked up Marceline before looking at the boys. “Let's go to the playroom so Aunt Jamie can sleep.” The twins gave a nod and Gavin smiled as he looked at his mate. “Rest well baby.” He quietly left the room with the three oldest kids.
Gavin and the three oldest stayed away from the room for two hours. It was when the boys started rubbing their eyes that he decided to return to the room, so the older kids could take a nap. Putting each down, he made sure they were dry and had sippy cups before he moved to Jamie who was still napping on the bed. Gavin tried not to move the bed too much as he sat beside Jamie and gently petted her head. It wasn't much longer that he ended up falling asleep.
