Ethan appeared in the doorway moments later, coffee in hand, his expression calm but eyes sharp. “You got a warning,” he noted, sitting beside her. “It’s not surprising. Some people aren’t ready to see the truth.”
“What truth?” Aria asked, her voice tense.
He hesitated, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “The truth about me… about the life I lead. There are things I’ve kept hidden to protect you… to protect everyone I care about.”
Her breath hitched. “Things like… what?”
Ethan leaned closer, voice dropping low, intimate. “Enemies you can’t see. Secrets that could destroy us if revealed. And the choices I make… they won’t always be easy for either of us.”
Aria’s mind raced. The danger, the thrill, the passion—it all suddenly felt heavier, more real. And yet, standing there with him, she felt a strange clarity. She had a choice: step back into safety or dive fully into the storm.
Her fingers brushed his hand. “I… I choose the storm,” she whispered. “With you.”
Ethan’s eyes softened, then darkened with that familiar predatory glint. “Good,” he murmured. “Because once the truth comes out, there’s no going back… and the game is about to change.”
The shadows outside seemed to deepen, as if echoing his words. Aria realized that with every revelation, with every risk, their bond was tested—but the fire between them only grew stronger.
