Alex cupped Kate’s face. “Well, that’s it. I will cook pasta so it will be done in fifteen minutes.” Kate shook her head, half-frustrated, half-anxious. “But how will it—” Before she could finish, Alex pressed a quick kiss to her lips. His smile was calm, deadly certain. “Don’t you trust me? I can do this.” Kate’s heart raced. She bit her lip and finally sighed. “Mmm. Okay then. Let us see what the warrior cook can do.” Alex rolled up his sleeves and moved like a soldier preparing for battle. He set a pot of water on the flame, tossing in a pinch of salt and a splash of oil.
