Once I had a beer in hand, I asked Case how he’d met Ray. “Through a mutual friend.” That made me laugh. “Why are you laughing?” Case asked. “I can’t see you and Ray having any mutual friends.” “We have a lot of mutual friends,” he said with a smile. Case told me he was a Realtor and that he was friends with many local contractors like Ray. Ray had worked on some of the houses Case’s real estate company represented. I tried to imagine Case, dressed in a suit after showing some young couple their dream home, hooking up with Ray, who’d certainly be covered in dust and grime after a day spent installing drywall.
