Chapter 19-03
"I hope this is just a tasteless joke" my mother spoke up first, and my grip on my cane tightened, hoping to support my weakening knees. I searched my father's eyes for sympathy, my mother's for mercy, and at last, Anthony's for a sense of brotherhood, but I could see nothing even remotely gentle about them, and something began breaking inside of me - something that has been hit a lot of times, but now, it actually cracked, and a long fissure began to run through its surface. Weakly, as if all my remaining will to live escaped my chest, I opened my lips, my eyes falling to the ground:
