Jace woke up with a throbbing headache, his temples pounding like a drumbeat. The morning light streaming through the window was a harsh reminder of the night's events. He tried to shake off the fatigue, but his body felt heavy, weighed down by the burdens of his own thoughts. He got his phone and dialed Christine's number. It rang three consecutive times, each ring echoing in silence. Jace perceived that she was still angry. Maybe, he acted out of proportion. Maybe, he shouldn't have brought the matter again. But he wanted to sort it out; he found it hard to believe that the girl which he had loved could do this to him. Somehow, he managed to pull himself out of bed. He trudged gently to the door.
