The Kings Want Her

Chapter 5

“Miss Kayla, wake up.” I feel someone shaking my body gently. I stir in my sleep and rub my eyes before opening them to see a lady in maid uniform smiling at me.

“Who are you?” I am still sleepy, and I almost forgot that I am in a vampire house.

What time is this and my head turns to the window. I forgot that there is no daytime here. Sigh, I must get use of this place now. I turn to see the lady is holding a beautiful green emerald dress in sequin.

“I am Maya. Sir James ask me to help you prepare yourself for the ball at King Damon’s castle.”

She looks pretty young maybe around my age. How did she end up being a maid here, in this world? Most importantly, is she a vampire too? I brush my thoughts away and look at the dress in her hands.

It is beautiful. I have been wanting to go to a ball in entire life. This all because I love watching royals romance movies. What you dress is the impression for someone to recognize you.

“It’s beautiful. Did James choose it for me?” I walk to her and touch the dress. It is so soft and the sparkle shine brightly. He sure has an excellent taste for a dress.

“Yes, Sir James picks this specially for you. It is very rare for Sir to personally pick a dress for their partner to the ball. I guess you are special.” She smiles sweetly.

“We don’t have much time now, shall we?” I nod and follow her to the dresser.

I look at my horrible face in the mirror. It is pale and my eyes looks very tired and swollen from the tears earlier. I have a warm silver eyes and people always adore them whenever I go.

Maya begin to open her makeup bag. I watch her putting all the makeup stuff on the dresser. I am a fan makeup but I have not try anything else other than mascara and lipstick. I hope I will not look like a mistress going with someone’s husband for a ball.

“Don’t worry Kayla. Sit back and relax okay, I will just keep your face in natural because the dress is already mesmerizing in it’s sparkle.” She knows what I was worrying about.

Maya starts to work on her magic on my face. She puts a natural brown colour in my eyelids and adding some glitter on it. Then, she brushes a little rosy blusher on my cheeks while for my lip, she uses nude lipstick with a little lip gloss.

I admire her works for my looks. While she is setting my hair, I try to make a small talk with her.

“Maya, how long have you been working with James?” She stops doing my hair and before taking a glance of me in the mirror.

“I have been working with Sir James since I was 13. Now I am 16, so it has been three years. He saves me from his friends that draining me to death. But he is nicer than them. Even though he also consumes the blood from me, he would always check on my health. He would give me proper food and shelter. Vampires are possessive Kayla, but they have their weakness when they have something precious to treasured.”

I listen to her and thinking that maybe James will protect me from other vampires too tonight if I behave like he said. Just thinking about meeting other vampires giving me a chill.

“I thought if vampires bite human, they will turn into vampires too.” She chuckles before replying to my thoughts.

“Well… to be able to transform into vampires, the human body itself need to be strong and we must allow it to be accepted in ourselves without force or it could lead to death. The only vampires that could help the transformation is the royalty, which means King Damon.”

So, this King Damon is so powerful to be able to do that to a human. What does he look like? Maybe some old vampire that gets angry all the time sitting on the throne waiting for human to devour and satisfying him till he gets enough of it.

After Maya finish setting up my hair into a messy bun and let down some of my strands of hair, she helps me putting up my dress. She pairs the dress with a pair of black heels that is not too high which I am very thankful for.

I look at myself fully dress in the mirror. Maya sure does a good job for my appearance. My smiles faded as I remember what the occasion is. I hold my hands together as they are trembling and sweating. Maya notice my frown looks. She holds my hand to reassure me.

“I’m scared Maya. What if they kill me right there!” I want to scream yet my voice turns to whisper.

Maya look at her sadly, understand her fear. She knows walking in the place full of vampires will only draw harm upon her. But she could not do anything to stop this. She hopes his master will protect her tonight.

Maya hugs and pats Kayla’s back. She tries to keep her calm. James will be here any minute to take Kayla to the ball.

“It will be okay Kayla. Just behave, and they would not dare to mistreat you in front of the king. Besides, Sir James is king’s trusted friend. The other vampires respect him too.”

I find it hard to believe but Maya’s words soothing my heart. I nod and thanks for her comforting me.

“Are you ready? Sir James must have been waiting you downstairs.” I nod and take a deep breath before stepping with her outside the room and walk downstairs.

My heels click on the stairs and the sound attract his attention to me. I stare at him nervously and he is in awe checking me out from head to toe. The devil himself looks very charming with his tux. He nods to Maya for the good job she did on me.

He takes my hand and kiss at the back of it gently. I bet my cheeks are crimson red right now. I have never let any man gets so close to me and his action makes me awkward.

“You look gorgeous. Is this your first time going to a ball with a man princess?” He grins at my awkwardness.

“Yes. I have never dated anyone in my life.” He shocks hearing it and quickly masking it with a warm smile.

It is true I have never dated anyone because I always shut my life away from them. Besides, boys on my age are not matured yet and that is why I am not wasting my heart for a prick. He takes my hand and we get into the car.

He turns on the classical music connecting his phone to the Bluetooth of his car. I remain silent along the journey to swallow the fear. He glances to my side and hold my hands, rub them slowly with his thumb. I startle with his action and look at his calm eyes. He is so focus on driving.

“I know you’re nervous. As long as I’m there, you don’t have to be worried much.”

“Okay.” I nod and let my eyes wandering outside the window.

There is nothing on the road. Only big trees in the darkness that crawling through my skin. After s while of driving, I finally see a castle glowing up. My heart wavering upon seeing it, seems we are getting closer to meet more of his kinds and the king of theirs.

‘Just remember to behave well Kayla. That is all the vampires want. Let they think you are a good pet for the master of yours and they will leave you alone.’ I keep reminding that in my mind till we finally pull over at the castle.
