Chapter 10 One day until We Go To War - Jasmine

1072 Words
Jasmine's POV I woke up to smelling pancakes and syrup and a light knock on the door. "Come in." I groaned groggily, assuming it was going to be Onya. I sat up and rubbed my eyes and then looked, letting them focus. Onya was bringing me breakfast. "I thought you might like breakfast up here since it was your last morning in your own bed for a while." she said, smiling down at me. I nodded, "Thank you, that was kind of you." Onya stepped up and helped me more and more each day as i went through training. She made and delivered me meals, prepared hot baths and ice baths for my muscles. She had always spoiled me and I was never grateful until now. Looking ahead at having to find and make my own food with minimal sleep and my life on the line. "Of course, dear," she responded. "Just mind link me when you're done eating and I will come up and collect the dishes for you." She smiled and turned to walk out of my room. I nodded again. This food smelled and looked delicious. She had made me a stack of three pancakes with syrup and butter on top and a side of bacon, extra crispy just the way I like, with a glass of orange juice to top it all off. I ate it slowly to savor the taste of each bite, knowing it would be my last pancakes for a while. Once I finished, I got up and threw on some clothes. I could walk this down. I knew Onya would be busy cooking breakfast or cleaning up breakfast from the pack house. The number of people staying here was growing as the front line kept getting pushed back by the enemy. I put on some yoga pants and a tee shirt and then headed down the stairs. As expected, it was busy already. I rinsed my dishes off and set them in the dish washer for when it was full so they could run it once. I had no idea what I would do with my day. I walked out into the back of the packhouse and sat on the swing in the garden. My mother started this so long ago and our omegas had finished. It was really lovely. I always felt close to my mother out in the middle. She was always bright and cheerful. I would never forget her. I am not sure how long I sat there but my butt was getting numb when I felt someone tap on my shoulder. "When I come out here it is usually when I miss your mother. Are you thinking of her?" It was my father. I nodded, not really wanting to talk about it. "I know I don't live up to your expectations and that I don't talk about your mother much. It's hard for me." He paused for a moment, "You are a lot like her. She is where you got your beauty, obviously," he chuckled at his joke and it forced me to crack a smile, "She was brave, and she did NOT like being told what to do. " He laughed even harder, looking off in the distance as if he was remembering something. "You get the best part of you from her." He told me and looked right at me. This was the most I had heard my father say about her since I was about ten years old. I leaned my head over on his shoulder. "I am glad to hear you say that. I wonder if I am anything like her all the time." I told my father. He placed a kiss on my head. "Well, I will let you go and visit your friends and everyone before we head out in the morning. You will not have time to say goodbye then. Do them now." he told me, and he stood up and walked away. I stood up and stretched, thinking if there was anyone I really needed to connect with here before heading out tomorrow. I walked up to my room and started packing my bag. I finished rather quickly as I was told only a few clothing items and the bare minimum due to the frequent movement and the camp usually wasn't in the same place. I was ready to go out. I was hoping to find my best friend. I hoped that she would join us and stay with me. Having my brother and my father on my heels the whole time, I would feel better with her there too. I sat my bag in the chair by the door when my brother James popped his head in. "You ready to head out in the morning?" he asked. "Yeah, I think so; as ready as I will ever be. I think I am prepared as much as I could." I told him, doubting myself. He nodded, "You are as prepared as any other warrior who is leaving in the morning. I believe there is about fifty of us heading out all together." He told me. I nodded and prepared. "There was a last-minute addition this week." My brother paused, leaning in I asked, "Okay, who is it?" I asked, intrigued, it had to be someone important if he was going to bring it up to me. "Well, it's Theo." he said. My eyes widened, he was a trained warrior and I knew he had always had this crush on my but I didn't think he would follow me into the battle. I am shocked, smitten and annoyed. I am a fully grown woman who has trained and prepared for this, I didn't need him to follow me around and try to take care of me. "Cat got your tongue, sis?" James snickered at me. "Stop it. This isn't funny." I told him, "I have to go talk to him." I told James. "Well, no matter how you feel or what you say, he is on the list now and he will not be removed." James shrugged at me. Just great, now I had a love sick man- puppy that was going to follow me into war to document every day to his memory. I shoved past James. I would still give Theo a piece of my mind regardless. *****Like and follow my f*******: Author page at fb.me/tldaltontheauthor i.e. T.L. Dalton Author Page***
