Chapter 2 Intro – Jasmine

*Sniff Sniff* I could smell Onya making breakfast downstairs. I could smell cheesy eggs with garlic and bacon! I popped out of bed quickly and followed my morning routine. Brush my teeth, my long brown wavy hair, wash my face and moisturize. I put on some curvy fit jeans that fit snuggly but were stretchy so they would be comfortable and paired that with a solid sage long sleeve green shirt that would make my green eye pop with it! Satisfied with how I looked in my mirror I headed downstairs to eat breakfast. Onya had my plate on the kitchen counter waiting on me as she finished preparing breakfast for the rest of the pack house. We were currently at war and many of the woman and children were here stay. Onya was an older pack member. She is the Beta’s mother. She always looked after me since my mother had died when I was ten. I loved her dearly not that I would ever let it show. Sometimes I felt like she tried to replace my mother to me and I knew I bared a resentment against her for it on days even though that may never be what she intended. “Thank you, Onya.” I told her when she smiled and nodded at me bringing me a glass of orange juice and sat it beside my place. I took a huge drink. No pulp. Thank the moon goddess. Pack members started filling the kitchen, mother’s making their pups plates and other children sitting with their friend they had here in small groups around the house. Most the small children sat at the table while the older kids made their way around to the kitchen bar or stood and ate and some even ate in the living room. Peeking in the dining room I could see a mother feeding her daughter probably about one and smiling at each other. My heart felt like a knife twisting in my chest, thinking of my mother and how I wouldn’t ever be able to laugh or enjoy a breakfast with her again. I grunted to myself annoyed that even 8 years later I want to cry at the thought of her. I close my eyes and take a deep breath and leave the downstairs to go get some air. Times like these I felt all alone. I walked through the garden smelling the flowers. My best friend Lindsey was a strong she-wolf and warrior. She was currently gone to battle. I hoped she would make it back safely. I feared something happening to her. She was the only one who stayed my friend after our pack’s Luna died. I acted out and threw tantrums, my father gave me what ever I wanted. Lindsey just let me work it out, if I wanted to scream she would scream with me, if I wanted to cry she would let me cry on her. She was truly my only friend in the world. After my mother died. My father focused on making sure we appeared like we were fine. I had to look like I was fine, dress like the other girls only not to have a mother help me. My brother was treated the same. We weren’t allowed to grieve in front of my father. He was barely staying sane. It’s probably the reason I am the way I am. Lindsey accepted me for that, for who I am. Never expected anything, just me. She left a couple days ago after some wolves came back badly injured and force to retreat. My father patched them up and gathered some of the she-wolf warriors and sent them back out to try to gain back the ground we had lost. He some what kept me in the loop. My older brother James was always with my father in his office preparing for the day he had to take over as Alpha. I knew he would always look out for me and protect me. And if my mate was some loser I knew he wouldn’t make me go to his pack. My father on the other hand I am not sure, yes he gives me whatever I want but its only so I don’t bother him. He had more important things to do than look after the likes of me. I had reached the end of the garden and sat on a iron bench there looking out over a small portion of our land. My heart ached for my mother and my friend to return. That is when I heard a commotion in the house. Instead of moving I allowed my wolf hearing to find out what was going on. “Get the pack doctor!” a man yelled. I heard multiple coming about in the pack house. “What happened?!” I heard my father yell. “We were outnumber sir we had to retreat. We lost too many. He is young and shouldn’t have been out there yet. Not without his father.” The same man spat at him. “Watch your tone and who you are talking too.” My father yelled at the man. The pack doctor came in the door; “Let me see him” the room fell silent as the doctor did an exam on whoever it was that was brought in by the man challenging my father. “Alpha, he is weak, his wolf is tired. I will likely need a blood transfusion to help speed the healing from you or Jasmine. Even without it James will be fine but it will take longer for to heal and full recover. . . “ The pack doctor went on but I no longer listened because my feet were moving without a sound, rushing to my brothers side in the living room. He was rough, I could smell the wolfs bane on him. They must have been using it to fight with. It would slow his healing for sure. His skin was blistered everywhere, his ribs had to be broken and bleeding on this side and the other it looked like his shoulder was relocated. “Take mine.” I whisper. Everyone else still talking around me. “I said TAKE MINE! TAKE IT NOW! Don’t you dare wait another second pass and my brother lay here suffering!” They all stopped and looked at me because I had gone from squadded down beside him to standing up yelling and pulling my sleeve up. “Better hers than mine. Do it.” My father order Dr. Newsome. “Very well.” He pulled something out of his bag and began taking my blood. I watched it flow from my arm into his. “How long will it take?” I asked him. The doctor looked up at me from checking my brother’s heartbeat. It was still weak. “It can take some time. Your blood is strong like his. It should speed his healing and we should hear his heartbeat get stronger before night fall and I would say by morning he should be awake.” I leaned down and kissed my brother’s head. I nodded to the doctor. Once the transfusion was completed my father order some pack member to help move my brother to his room on the second floor. I had them also bring in a large recliner. I would not leave my brothers side until he was well. *** It was dusk outside when Onya came up to check on my brother and I. She seemed upset about his injuries. He was closer to her than I was. Welcoming someone to take of him when our mother left. She also brought up a sandwich for me to eat and a bottle of water. I downed both and laid in the chair next to my brother’s bed. After a few moments I saw Onya cry and leave the room. I looked at my brother. Fear and angry bubbling under my surface. “You will be fine James. My blood will heal you. Then I would train with you and we will take revenge on who did this to you together.” I promised him. I don’t know how long I sat there watching him but I remember right before I fell asleep I could hear his heartbeat getting stronger and louder just as the doctor had said.
