Ivy's POV
Days passed, and no one came to explain. There was no word, no one to talk to. It felt like I was invisible.
Then Claire appeared; I got up, my eyes blazing with anger, my fists clenched to the sides. “How dare you!” I growled.
And she scoffed, “You're in here because you kept it within you and tried to strike. When you saw us that day, you should've come clean and shouted. All these wouldn't have happened. I feel pity for you because you'd be sitting here or probably getting killed.” Claire said with a laugh.
I couldn't imagine that this was the same girl that was once more important to me than my parents.
I remembered the first time she was sold as my maid when I was little; we grew up together.
How could she do this to me?
“I just came to let you know that the elders have all agreed to kill you, and you'd be hanged soon, because the alpha is sick,” she said, and my eyes widened.
“What do you mean, he didn't drink it, so how?” The words slip out immediately from my mouth.
“You have no one, again. I hope you feel how others felt with your father's leadership. My parents were accused wrongly, and they were killed before me. I hope your parents mourn the way I did.” Claire said, tears streaming down her cheeks, and she left immediately.
I froze. What? I couldn’t believe my ears. Poisoning the king? Was this a joke? Why was I being blamed for something like that?
I stood there, trying to piece everything together. The king had been sick for days before the coronation. But poisoning him? No. That couldn’t be true. Could it? I didn’t have the strength to process it all, but it felt like the walls of this prison were closing in on me.
It hit me all at once, and my body shook from the realization. “Why would they say that?” I thought. Was this Austin’s plan all along? Was he trying to set me up for something worse? He always had a way of twisting everything.
I had to get out of here. I couldn’t let them win.I needed a way out.
Then, as if fate had answered me, I saw a figure standing by the bars.
“Hey, please,” I begged, my voice desperate. “Get me out of here. Please. I’ll give you anything. Everything.”
He looked at me, hesitation in his eyes. “I can’t... The Alpha—”
“I don’t care about the Alpha,” I snapped, urgency filling my voice. “I’ll give you whatever you want. Money. Power. Anything.”
The guard paused, considering. “Alright,” he said quietly. “I’ll help you. But you better not be lying.”
“I’m not. Just get me out of here tonight,” I insisted.
And then, just like that, he was gone. I was left alone, holding my breath, praying that it wasn’t a lie.
Hours passed. I waited, trembling with anticipation. What if this wasn’t real? What if it was another trick? But then, at the dead of night, I heard the creak of the dungeon door opening.
I turned quickly, my heart pounding. There he was. The guard.
“I’m getting you out now,” he whispered.
“But hurry.”
I didn’t waste a second. I followed him out of the cold, damp cells, my mind spinning with both fear and relief. I was free.
But as we neared the exit, something made me stop dead in my tracks. A chill ran through me.
There, standing in the hall, was Austin. His cold, dark eyes met mine. He stood like a wall, blocking my path.
“You think you can run away from me?” he said, a smirk playing on his lips. “There’s no escaping me, Ivy. No one does. You’re mine.”
I took a step back, my heart in my throat. “Austin, please. Don’t do this,” I begged, my voice trembling. “Let’s talk; you don't have to do it this way, please.”
But he didn’t listen. His eyes darkened, and with a slow movement, he raised his hand. A gun. I could see it in his palm, gleaming in the dim light.
“Goodbye, Ivy,” he said, his voice ice-cold.
“No!” I cried, but before I could do anything, the sharp sound of the gunshot echoed through the hall. The bullet hit me in the forehead. The world spun, darkness engulfing me.
And then... everything went black.
I don’t know how long I was out, but when I woke up, I didn't feel any pain.
I blinked, disoriented. I wasn’t in the dungeon anymore.
The room around me was elegant, decorated with expensive furniture and golden details.
Panic surged through me. Where was I? I stood up slowly.
I stumbled toward the mirror in the corner of the room. I needed to see myself. But as soon as I looked into it, I froze.
The reflection staring back at me wasn’t mine.
I gasped, my hands flying to my mouth. This wasn’t possible. The face staring back at me was unfamiliar—completely different. It was a stranger’s face.
“What... What the hell happened?” I whispered to myself, panic rising in my chest. How was this possible? Was I dreaming? Was this some twisted illusion? My mind raced as I touched the face, pinching my skin,
I reached up, touching my face, but the reflection remained the same. My old face was gone.
“How did this happen?” I couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing. One moment, I was dying in the halls; the next, I was here, in a completely new body.
I stumbled back, my breath coming faster now, my heart pounding in my ears. “No. No, no, no!” I whispered, almost hysterical. “This can’t be real.”
But the mirror didn’t lie. My face had changed. I was someone else.
I closed my eyes, trying to calm my breathing, but nothing made sense anymore. Everything felt like a nightmare.
I took another look at myself, and then I realized that I had been reborn. This wasn’t the life I knew. This wasn’t the person I was.
And in that moment, I realize done horrifying truth—my revenge had only just begun.
With this new face, I'll make Austin pay!
