I woke to find my sister still asleep next to me. I got up quietly, being sure not to wake her. I went down stairs to find my dad asleep on the couch. I picked up all the beer bottles and went into the kitchen. I made made me and my sister's lunch for school. Noticing the time, which is six a clock, I went back upstairs to get my sister's stuff ready.
Now six thirty, I went into the back yard to feed the dog. His name was Duke. He is Rottweiler, seven years old to be exact. We had since he was a puppy. He was super sweet to us, but for some reason he hates other people.
It's now seven, so I go wake my sister up. She gets and grabs all her stuff. She quickly runs to the car, careful not to wake up our dad. I go out to meet her and we start driving off the school.
"Hey Dallas," she said, "Why was Mom and Dad fighting last night?"
"I don't know Maggie," I replied.
As a matter of fact, I did know. Mom has been going out late and meeting up with a guy. Dad finally found out about it and confronted her. She wasn't cheating on him, she was just buying drugs and reselling them to her friends, then partying with them. Dad found a needle in her bag and one of his friends told him that they saw her with some guy.
We finally got to school. she hoped out, not saying much and waved me good bye. I could tell she was thinking about last night. I went to go park. getting out, I saw Mia pulling up into the parking lot. I started walking inside when I heard Mia calling my name. I turned around to see her rushing towards me.
"Hey," I said.
"Hey," she replied.
She was smiling and her eyes sparkled with excitement.
"I have a question," she said.
"Yes?" I ask.
"Can I have your number," She asked.
"Sure," I replied.
I gave her my number and then she ran off to meet up with her friends. Class was starting and I sat there staring at the clock. Blocking out all noise, my mind started to drift off.
The bell rang, so I got up and started to walk out the door. I felt someone behind me grab my shoulder, throwing me back on the ground. I didn't even have to look up to know who it was. Evan of course, he walked off laughing. Evan was my bully. He was jerk sometime but some days he was even worse. I let a sigh and got back up. I didn't care about how I was treated at school.
"Dallas," a voice called out from behind me.
I turned to see Mia once more. I don't understand her sudden interest in me.
"Yes," I said.
"There's a party tomorrow night and I was wondering if you want to come," she said.
"Sure okay," I said.
"Okay I'll text you later with the details," She replied running off.
She is a mystery, that's for sure. I don't see was she all the suddenly talking to me. In fact, last year she hated me. I guess she changed her mind or something.
Finally all my classes have passed. Now I need to get to football practice. In the locker room, I was getting dressed when Evan walked up to me. He grabbed me and slammed me against the locker.
"Look, listen dipshit," Evan said,"Here's what you're going to do, during practice you are going to let me tackle you easier so I can impress Coach Dave. Got it."
"Yea, whatever Evan." I said.
When we got to the field,we started our warmups. Me and Evan were paired up. Remembering what Evan had told in the locker room, I decided to go against it and take him down instead. When coach told us to go, we barreled towards each other. I ended up knocking him down easier then I thought I would. He got up and angrily glared at me.
After practice, I went home. My sister was sitting in the living watching TV. I went up to my room. My phone buzzed. It was Mia texting me the details. I didn't bother responding back. I lit roll and began to smoke. Neither one of my parents were here, so I didn't see the problem.
I began to slow drift off to sleep. But then the front door slammed opened and my sister ran up to my room. My dad got home. I knew he was drunk and angry, so I got up and locked my door. My sister wasn't to scared, but I knew for a fact that she didn't want to deal with our dad.
"Dallas, why does Dad get drunk all the time," Maggie asked.
"I don't know Maggie," I replied, "It's probably best that we don't get in his way though."
She curled up on my bed and went to sleep. My dad too soon passed out on the couch. I decided it was time for me to go to sleep as well. I got ready to go bed, when again my phone buzzed.
Mia: Gn, See you tomorrow at school.
I decided to reply to her. I mean if I didn't, she would probably chew me out for it tomorrow.
Me: Gn, See you tomorrow.
I set my phone down and went sleep on the floor cause my sister took up my whole bed. I didn't mind, as long as she okay that's all the matters.
