Chapter 20: The Gate to Ravaryn

305 Words
The whispers followed them, slithering through the trees like unseen ghosts. Aurora’s skin prickled, but she forced herself to keep moving. The path had changed. What had once been a simple dirt trail was now ancient stone, cracked and worn with age. Vines crawled over the surface, and strange symbols glowed faintly beneath the moonlight. Darius slowed, eyes narrowing. “We’re close.” Aurora swallowed hard. “To what?” Celeste pointed ahead. “To that.” Aurora followed her gaze—and her breath caught. A massive gate stood before them, carved from black stone and pulsing with an eerie, golden glow. It was ancient, the surface covered in runes that flickered like dying embers. And in the very center, a symbol was engraved into the stone. Aurora froze. It was the same mark that burned on her palm. Lysander took a slow step back. “Yeah, I don’t like this.” Darius approached the gate, his fingers brushing over the stone. “It’s sealed.” Celeste frowned. “Sealed how?” Darius exhaled. “Blood magic.” Aurora’s stomach twisted. She already knew what that meant. It wanted her. Her mark burned as if answering the call. The whispers rose. “The Dreamweaver returns… The path opens…” Aurora stepped forward. She placed her hand against the stone. The moment she did, golden light erupted from the gate. Power rushed through her, hot and electric, as the runes flared to life. The stone trembled beneath her fingertips. Then—the gate groaned. Stone cracked. The air hummed with magic. And then, with a final, earth-shaking boom, the gate opened. Beyond it lay Ravaryn. The lost city. The place that had haunted her dreams. The place where he was waiting. Aurora’s heart pounded as she stepped forward. Because there was no turning back now.
