Chapter 7| Untying

Age 16

Today I was going to file for my Emancipation I was 16 make my own money and I have enough saved for a cheap apartment or a roommate for a couple of months. I was ready to become a legal adult I was tired of the negligence, the verbal and occasional physical. I'm sick of it, I'm tired of it all. He got so cruel and evil over the years, Rachel and him have been going at it for awhile now. They be really fist fighting I try my best to stay out of it, he hit me a couple of times I didn't fight him back though he was way to strong. So most of the time I Katie would just get a hotel for us to stay in. Well not her but her mom.

I talked to my school counselor about it and she gave me options, and I'd decided to save up and get out from under his roof and become independent legal adult. Of course Katie help out tremendously I am still truly grateful.

No one should go through that and I wouldn't stand for no man lay a hand a on me. Make me feel less than what I am when I know I am so much more. I don't deserve what he gives to me; the pain. I just pray anyone going through abuse of any sort, that they get help.

So, I scheduled a social woker to help me out with all of it, she was going to help me get the papers signed, find a decent amd stable place to live depending on my income, and explain to me my responsibilities.

Scarlett Meyers I made an appointment with you to be emancipated." I said knocking on door that was opened.

"Oh yes Meyers come in, sit down, lets get started." She said, this woman looked like she was all over the place papers crowded her desk. She was a petite woman with her hair in a neat bun and glasses on her face. I took my seat .

"Okay I assume your gardian knows about this and you both look through and signed the form?" She asked.

"Oh yes believe me he was very complying to get me out of his hair," I said giving her the form. "So will I need to get anything else from him?" I ask.

"Oh no sweetie, trust you will not be needing anything from him with me on your case, as long as we don't have a problem with him denying your claim we wouldn't have to bring any court matters into this this would be done filed and approved in a couple of weeks in the mean time I have a couple of apartments that is near your school, if you want to stay there.

"What about this one?" I said pointing out the three bedroom with already 2 people living there. There is one more room.

"Oh perfect Grace and Ebony, they are just the sweetest things if you like I could give you the address and you could look at it in your free time and see if it suits your distance range and your income." We talk throuhly she had me speak to a lawyer and then I went to work.

I worked at a antique shop with Katie.

She is really pretty she is known and mostly respected because of who her brothers were in high school, I only really met one of her brothers her other two were always busy. The one that met he went away for college and comes occasionally to visit, he was super cute. I bet all her brothers are cute. Anyways Katie is super nice.. well to me I can't say much for people that cross her after she is a my rainbow. She is 5'9 she comes from a very tall family. Her dad is a giant and super buff and super mean, I guess that's Katie get her aggressiveness. Katie has short brown hair she was pretty slim she was more into sports but don't get me wrong she wasn't a tomboy she loves dresses just the same as the next girl.

Katie became my friend when everyone else bullied me, she stood up for me and occasionally fought for me. She would always dry my tears when I would go through something, when I didn't feel safe at home I'd sleep at her house and she would comfort me.

The antique shop was anything but special but I got $10 an hour that was pretty good in my book considering how long it took to find a job.

He was a f*****g ass, I groaned silently and went to get the supplies and went to the women restroom it wasn't that dirty but still nasty to clean. I started by cleaning the mirror and the counter, then worked my way to the toilet then the floor. Then the mens room which was way more discusting. I wish Katie was here.

When I was done I cleaned up and was assigned the cash register and let me tell you these customers are rude.

I left for the day and went to go check out apartment, I took the city bus Tibetan Avenue. It was a pretty decent neighborhood. When I found the building I took the elevator to the 6th floor before I could knock on the door, the door open to see I guy leaving, "Bye babe." The girl said that was the on the other side of the door, she had a robe on.

"Hi my nam-"

"Scarlett right?" she asked cutting me off mid sentence.

"Uh yeah."

"Come in." She said with a smile, "Don't be shy."she said grabbing my wrist and pulling me in shutting the door behind me.

"Miss Kennedy told me you were coming, my roommate Ebony isn't here, but she is really nice." She said to me, she doesn't waste time at all and she is really friendly. "Why are you so quite?" She asked.

"I don't know, because we just met."I said.

"Well don't! Smile, do want to see the room that you could be leaving in."

"Okay," and again she took my wrist and pulled me to a room." I looked around at the apartment it was nice and pretty and well like women lived here. When we reached to the room, it was empty it only had a bed and a dresser.

"Nice right?"

"Yeah it really is."

"Now tell me about yourself, what do you like, what do you do, how old are you, do you have a boyfriend?"

"I'm fifteen, I don't have a boyfriend, I go to Oakland High, and I work at an Ice cream shop."

"Are you having s*x?" she asked so suddenly.

"What? No!" I exclaimed.

"Sheesh just asking."

"We just met."

"I know that's why I have to know these things, I can already tell I'm going to like you alot and so is Ebony."

"Well since we asking personal questions? Who was that guy that just left, did YOU sleep with him?"

"He is my ex-boyfriend Jeff and yes we did have s*x. See we are getting somewhere."

"If he is your ex why did you just sleep with him."

"We are on and off constantly."

"Oh okay well this was a nice discussion, I should get going."

"Really ok, I guess. Do you need a ride?"

"Yeah that would be nice thanks." As we got into her car and talked she told me about herself. She was 18 she is a senior she is currently in a off and on relationship with her 26 year old boyfriend named Alex. She is going to college next year to become a teacher.

She dropped me off at home I thanked her we made plans to meet up another day.

A couple of months past I was ready to leave dad wasn't here he was in the Bahamas. He hired a moving company for me though. 'I was not going to miss this house.' I thought.

As for Wolfe he stopped visiting a couple years ago I was getting a little old I guess that drew him away I would always think about him, but I felt like it wouldn't be the last of him. I guess it's just childhood fairytale.
