CHAPTER SIXIN the afternoon there was a torrential downpour of rain, as happened almost every day during the rainy season. It did not last for long, but the streets were soon awash, the paddy fields flooded and everybody sought shelter. The Duke, fortunately, had not left the Palace and went with Dawson to the dark room.
