LILY'S POV “I'm sorry, Lily. Don't see it like she's dead. See it like she went to a better place to rest. She's been going through so much pain fighting and she'll finally get to rest.” Cassie tried her best to make me feel better but it was cold comfort, insufficient for my situation.“I'll call Aaron to come over immediately.” She said and I grabbed the phone from her immediately.“You won't call that bastard and that's final!” I declared with a furious expression and she squinted her gaze at me.“There seems to be more to what's going on between you and Aaron but it's fine if you're unwilling to share. Get off the floor, Lily. Everything will be fine,” She offered to help and I finally got off the floor, handing her phone back to her.“I know you're not on good terms, but at least he should know what's going on. He's still your husband—--”“He's not my husband!!” I retorted loudly, my voice resounded across the room and she urged me to calm down. Another patient was rolled into the room on a stretcher by the nurses, and the sight broke my heart. Like my mum never mattered, they were replacing her almost immediately.Cassie led me out of the room and I leaned on her shoulder, letting the tears flow continuously.“Lily, you have to calm down. I know how you feel —-”“You don't know how I feel!! Don't f*****g say you know how I feel!! Have you lost a parent before? Tell me, have you? Even if your parents aren't together, you get to see both of them at intervals. What about me? I lost my father two years ago and now, my mum, the only true family member I have, my strongest pillar of support is gone and you f*****g say you know how I feel? Don't wish to feel a quarter of my pain because you won't survive it!” I panted heavily after my outburst and from the expression on her face, I knew she was hurt by my words but so was I. She got the car in motion and zoomed off the premises. The ride back home was a silent one and the only sound in the car was the sound of my endless sobs. The moment we got back to her residence, I hurried back into the guest room but this time around, she was faster. She stepped in with me, giving me no chance to lock the door.“I don't really know how to comfort you, Lily. My words seem to do more harm than good but the truth is that I love you way more than you think.” She pulled me into her embrace and I hugged her back, Burying my neck in the crook of her neck.“I'm sorry for my outburst earlier. The pain is just unbearable and I find it difficult to believe mum is no more.” I wailed loudly as she patted my back comfortingly.“It's fine, I know you didn't mean any of those.” She responded, tightening the hug.She left after a while and returned shortly with some pills and a glass of water. “What's that?” I asked.“Sedatives. It'll help you relax and forget some things for a while. This isn't good for your health, to avoid a breakdown.” She urged me to take them but I shook my head.“I just lost my mum, Cass. Allow me to mourn her properly.” I replied.“I know, but not at the detriment of your health.” She continued and I finally collected the pills from her and took them. I rested my head on the headboard with my eyes shut, waiting for the pills to get effective.I finally got dizzy and gave in to the darkness when I could no longer fight it after a while.*********I woke up with a throbbing ache in my head as rays of light streamed directly into my eyes in a parallel beam. My eyes blinked open and I shut them subconsciously. The effect of the rays made it difficult to adjust and I placed my palm over my eyes as I sat upright. I was finally able to open my eyes and I looked around the room. I recognised it to be the guest room at Cassie's place and the events that happened yesterday replayed in my head. I bit my lips tightly, throwing my head backwards. I tried not to cry as it was still early but it was so difficult to hold back the tears. The door cracked open and Cassie stepped in.“Good morning, Lily. You slept for a very long time, I hope you feel better now?” She asked as she stepped in, placing a palm on my shoulder and I nodded.“Mum is currently on her way. She took a flight last night after I broke the news to her,” She informed me and I nodded with not much enthusiasm.I got on my feet and entered the bathroom to freshen up. The dark circles underneath my eyes made me look like a ghost in a haunted house. My eyeballs were sunken and I looked like a shadow of myself.I had a quick bath and stepped out. Cassie prepared a pink dress for me to put on and I asked for a pair of sandals which she gave without hesitation. She urged me to step out of the room and have a meal. I wasn't hungry but after much deliberation, I decided to have a bite. As I took the last bite of the toast bread, we heard footsteps and turned to see Mrs. Venus, Cassie's mum. “Lily dear,” She called as she approached and wrapped me in a hug. I hugged her back and tried to stop myself from crying.“I'm sorry about what happened, please don't take it to heart.” She consoled and I nodded.“I'll be leaving now, Cass. Thanks for having me.” I said to Cassie and her eyes widened.“You can't leave now, you've barely eaten your food and you're still—-”“It's fine Cass. I'm okay now, you don't have to worry about me. I'll be fine.” I flashed her a weak smile.“Please, accept this if you must leave.” Mrs. Venus said, offering me cash but I declined politely and took my leave.I withdrew a good amount from a nearby ATM and flagged down a taxi. I stepped in and headed directly to Aaron's house. My stuff was still there and I needed to pick most of it.We got there after a while and I paid him off and alighted. With my head high, I walked through the gates and headed directly into the building, ascending the stairs.I walked towards our bedroom and the sound I heard made me halt in my tracks. The further I went, the louder it became.“Ugh!!--- Faster!!”“Baby girl, you're so—- good!”“f**k! Just like that-–” It was Aaron's voice in that familiar tone he always used whenever he was on the verge of climaxing.CHAPTER 4
