CHAPTER XI CLOSED Auschwitz I I was flying at breakneck speed through cosmic space, so fast that in front of me the stars appeared like luminous lines that continued far ahead, to the limit of my sight. I was rapidly approaching the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way, where I arrived within moments. I saw billions of stars clustered together, blindingly bright, swallowed by huge black holes with big hungry mouths which sucked them in by the thousands, as if the whole universe were leaking through there. This is how the universe eats itself, I told myself, because ultimately everything, space and time, have a beginning and an end.
