Before Mateo could start with what he insisted was an important discussion, she caught sight of a familiar face walking into the kitchen, and she stared at him. Wait, that was the sheriff. Why did he look so comfortable here?
Jenna turned accusing eyes to Mateo, and he looked a little guilty. “Why does the sheriff act like he lives here?” She demanded in a combination of fear and accusation.
The sheriff looked like he had just walked into an execution for himself, and he backed out of the room like his life was in danger.
Mateo cleared his throat after a moment with his eyes glazed over. “Well, that’s because he lives here. He’s part of my pack.”
