Mason He listened to his mate’s peaceful breathing in the back of the cabin while he drove. She had finally fallen asleep despite the tension radiating off her. He wanted to find a safe place to hide the truck before he, too, would settle down for the night. His phone vibrated in his pocket and he wasn’t surprised to see his brother was calling him. He had expected the call earlier, but he also knew from Raymond’s excited chatter that his mate had a delightfully busy mind, and he had his hands full trying to keep up with her excitement about life as a bear and a healthy human. He had taken great pleasure in telling them about their fishing expedition and her off-beat singing of “the winner takes it all” while getting lost in the woods and exclaiming that directions meant nothing to her.
