EPISODE THREE : THE COUNCIL'S JUDGMENT

1640 Words
Sophia The five wolves circled us slowly, their eyes glowing in the dim penthouse lighting. Then they shifted. Five naked people stood in Alexander's living room like this was completely normal. Three men, two women all of them radiating power that made my skin prickle. The oldest, a silver-haired woman with scars across her collarbone, stepped forward. "Alexander Black. You've exposed our kind to the human world. The footage is everywhere Twitter, i********:, CNN. We're trending globally." "Viktor attacked my mate," Alexander growled, positioning himself in front of me. "I wasn't going to let her die for your precious secrecy, Councilor Morrison." "Your alleged mate." A younger man with cold blue eyes sneered. "Convenient timing, wouldn't you say? Your curse is about to complete, and suddenly you find your fated mate?" "The bond is real, Marcus." "Prove it." Marcus's eyes locked onto me. "Let us see the mark." My hand instinctively covered my wrist. "Excuse me?" "All true Luna bonds leave a mark," Morrison said, her voice softer but no less commanding. "If you're truly Alexander's fated mate, you'll bear his mark. Show us." I looked at Alexander. He nodded once, jaw tight. Slowly, I pulled back my sleeve. The crescent moon birthmark glowed faintly gold but now there was something new. A black wolf silhouette curled around it, like it was protecting the moon. The Council went silent. "Impossible," Marcus breathed. "The mark has already begun forming. But that takes weeks—" "It started the moment our eyes met," Alexander said. "The bond recognized her instantly." Morrison stepped closer, studying my wrist. "This is a true mate bond. I haven't seen one in fifty years." Her eyes lifted to mine. "Do you understand what you are, child?" "A Luna. Werewolf royalty. Apparently extinct." I pulled my sleeve down. "And Viktor's favorite target." "More than that." Morrison's expression was grave. "You're the last of the royal bloodline the only one who can break alpha curses. Your blood is power, girl. Literal power." "Which is why Viktor wants her," Elena interjected from the doorway. "He's been hunting Luna bloodlines for decades. If he gets her blood during the blood moon ritual—" "He'll become a daywalker," Morrison finished. "Immune to sunlight, silver, and wood. Unstoppable." She turned back to Alexander. "You've brought a war to our doorstep." "Viktor brought the war," Alexander snarled. "Five years ago when he slaughtered her family. Tonight when he attacked her in my city. I'm finishing it." "And human exposure?" "I'll handle it. My PR team is already spinning it as a publicity stunt for a new film." Marcus laughed bitterly. "You think humans are that stupid?" "I think humans believe what they want to believe." Alexander's eyes flashed gold. "But that's not why you're really here, is it? You want to know if I'm still fit to lead." The room went deathly quiet. Morrison's expression was unreadable. "The curse is progressing. We can all sense it. Your control is slipping." "I have six months—" "You have weeks before you become a danger to your own pack," Marcus cut in. "The Luna bond might break the curse, but it takes time. Time we don't have. I'm calling for a formal challenge." My blood went cold. "What's a formal challenge?" "A fight to the death for pack leadership," Elena said quietly. "If Alexander loses, Marcus becomes alpha." "And if he wins?" "Marcus dies." Alexander's voice was flat. "And the Council backs off." Marcus smiled. "Unless the curse takes you during the fight. Then we all get to watch you become the monster you're destined to be." "You son of a—" I started forward, but Alexander's arm blocked me. "When?" he asked Marcus. "Three days. The abandoned warehouse district. Traditional rules no interference, fight until submission or death." Marcus's eyes gleamed. "Unless you'd like to step down now and save us all the trouble?" "I'll see you in three days." Alexander's voice was pure alpha command. "Now get the f**k out of my home." The Council shifted back to wolf form and left without another word except Morrison, who paused at the elevator. "The girl is telling the truth about her family," she said quietly. "I remember the Brooklyn m******e. Viktor claimed it was territorial, but we knew better. He was hunting Luna bloodlines even then." Her ancient eyes met mine. "Your mother fought like a warrior to protect you. She died buying you time to hide." My throat closed up. "I'm sorry for your loss, child. But understand this you're not just Alexander's salvation. You're a weapon. And everyone will want to use you." She stepped into the elevator. "Choose your battles carefully." The doors closed. I turned on Alexander. "A fight to the death? Are you insane?" "I don't have a choice." He moved to the floor-to-ceiling windows, staring out at the city. "If I refuse, I forfeit my position. The pack falls apart, Viktor moves in, and you lose your only protection." "So you're going to fight him while cursed?" "I've beaten Marcus before." "Before you were cursed!" I grabbed his arm, forcing him to face me. "You said yourself you're losing control. What happens if the curse takes over during the fight?" His jaw clenched. "Then Elena puts me down before I hurt anyone." "No." The word came out fiercer than I intended. "No, there has to be another way." "There isn't—" "Then we accelerate the bond." I stepped closer. "You said completing the mate bond breaks the curse. So we complete it. Now." His eyes flashed gold, and suddenly he was right in my space, crowding me against the window. "You don't know what you're offering." "I know exactly what I'm offering." My heart hammered, but I held his gaze. "You need this bond completed to survive the fight. So let's complete it." "It doesn't work like that." His voice dropped to something rough and dangerous. "The bond has stages. Mark, claim, mate. Each one deepens the connection. We've barely started the mark if I push too fast, it could kill you." "And if you die in three days, we both lose anyway." He stared at me for a long moment. "Why would you risk this? You barely know me." "Because Viktor killed my family." The truth burned in my chest. "Because I'm tired of running. Because whether I like it or not, you're my best shot at revenge. And because..." I touched the mark on my wrist. "This thing between us I feel it. It's real. Terrifying, but real." Something shifted in his expression surprise, maybe hope. "There might be a way," he said slowly. "To strengthen the bond without completing it. But it requires trust." "What kind of trust?" "The kind where you let me bite you." I blinked. "Excuse me?" "The alpha's claiming mark." His hand traced my neck, right above my pulse. "Here. It's the second stage of the bond establishes you as mine to the pack, to Viktor, to everyone. It won't complete the bond, but it'll give me enough strength to beat Marcus." "And the catch?" His thumb brushed my racing pulse. "It'll hurt. And once I mark you, every wolf in the city will know you're mine. There's no going back." "Will it help you control the curse during the fight?" "Yes." I tilted my head, exposing my neck. "Then do it." "Sophia—" "We have three days, Alexander. And I'm not watching you die because we were too scared to take a risk." I met his eyes. "Mark me. Claim me. Whatever it takes to keep you alive long enough to end Viktor." His control was clearly fracturing I could see it in the gold bleeding through his eyes, the way his canines lengthened. "You're sure?" "I'm sure." He moved so fast I barely saw it one moment standing apart, the next his arms were around me, his mouth at my neck. "This will hurt," he warned one last time. Then he bit down. Pain exploded through me white-hot and all-consuming. But beneath it was something else. Heat. Power. Connection. I felt Alexander everywhere his strength, his fear, his desperate need to protect. The mate bond snapped tighter, weaving us together like golden threads. When he pulled back, his eyes were pure gold, blood on his lips. The mark on my wrist blazed so bright I had to close my eyes. When I opened them, the world had changed. I could feel the pack dozens of wolves scattered across the city, all of them aware of me now. Aware that their alpha had claimed his mate. "Holy s**t," I breathed. Alexander caught me as my knees buckled. "Easy. The bond rush takes time to adjust to." "I can feel them. All of them." "That's the pack bond. You're Luna now connected to everyone I lead." His arms tightened around me. "How do you feel?" Honestly? Terrified. Exhilarated. More alive than I'd felt in five years. "Like I just made either the best or worst decision of my life." He laughed raw and genuine. "Welcome to my world." Then his phone buzzed again. We both tensed. He checked it, and his expression went dark. "Damian just sent footage from our security cameras." He turned the phone toward me. The video showed the warehouse district and hundreds of red eyes glowing in the darkness. "Viktor's army," Alexander said quietly. "They're already here. Waiting for the challenge." "He's going to attack during the fight." "Yes." I straightened, the bond giving me strength I didn't have before. "Then we don't wait three days. We go to him first." "Sophia—" "You said you'd give me Viktor. So let's go get him." I grabbed my silver blade. "Together." His smile was pure predator. "Now you're thinking like an alpha's mate."
