Rose At first, I thought I was hallucinating, and my mind was playing tricks on me, but the long retreating shadow was real, and someone had caught us in such a compromising position. Instantly, I pushed him back, alarm ringing all over my face as I stepped away from him. Of God, this is trouble! What if that person was Jennie? Or the person was working for Klaus at all? Or worse, what if the person listened in on our conversation? I shut my eyes tight, hoping that by the time I opened it, I was back in my room and all of this was just a dream. “Next time, mind your use of words. I blame myself for trying to save your bratty ass.” His voice held contempt as he spoke, and I could all but say nothing as I watched him storm out of the kitchen. He is the least of my problems right now.
