Chapter 3

Maeves POV;

It was now Monday, it's been two days since I found my mate and Ulta was already struggling with not being with him. I headed into the bathroom to get ready. I had an awful sleep, Sam was with another last night. I wonder if he knows I'm in pain. I jumped in the shower and let the warm water relax me, and to help wake me up. I quickly washed my hair and body and jumped out. Putting on some light makeup to cover the bags and added a little curl cream to help my curls out. I headed into my closet and pulled out a dark pair of jeans and a cute blue ruffle top. When I headed down stairs neither of my parents were there, it was 7:15 and I decided to head over to the Pack House. Once I opened the door I saw Sam coming down the stairs, my heart started to race before I noticed his hand was intertwined with someone else. It was Kelsey, she was beautiful. Long blonde hair, slim and curvy. She wore a pink dress that hugged her perfectly. No wonder Sam wanted to wait to be with me. I hurried into the kitchen before Sam could see me, I grabbed one of my mom's muffins and went and sat at the picnic table outside the back.

Duncan's POV;

I had just sat down at the table when Mae bolted in and headed to the kitchen. Seconds later Sam came in with Kelsey, as they sat across from me she gave me a seductive smile and wink. Of cource he was with her, Kelseys goal has been to sleep with all the unmated wolves before she finds her own. I was disgusted by Sam and hers behavior and lost my appetite. I got up and headed to the kitchen to see if Mae was okay. When I walked in she was no where to be seen, she must be outside. I grabbed an apple and pastry for later and headed out the back door. Mae was sitting there sobbing trying to eat her muffin.

"Hey Mae." Her head quickly looked at me and she wiped her tears away.

"Oh good morning Alpha Duncan, sorry I didn't see you there."

"Just Duncan remember?" I said giving her a smile. "Mind if I sit here?" I asked walking over to her.

"No go ahead."

I took the seat across from her, and watched her eat peices of her muffin slowly.

"Are you doing okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine." She said giving me a forced smile. We sat in silience for a few moments while she contiued to eat her muffin.

"Did you wanna ride today?"

"Oh, sure." We contiued to make small talk and then headed over to my grey Land Rover Discovery, I walked over to the passenger side door and opened it for her.

"You're being very nice to Maeve." Onxy stated.

"She's nice and she's hurt, I just wanna help her."

"Why don't you talk to Sam?"

"I will tonight." I jumped in and started the vechle, we sat in silence for a few minutes while she looked out the window.

"Mae?" She turned to look at me her face still a bit flushed from crying.

"Rember the other day when we were talking, and I asked you why don't you reject him?" I asked. She gave a small nod in return.

"I know it's noone of my buissness, but have you thought about it?"

Meaves POV;

I looked down at my hands for a minute before answering. Ulta hated the question, she whimpered when he asked. But I knew she was hurt, I mean I was too. I didn't expect for this to happen. I have considered it... Would a rejection hurt less than this? Would I be blessed by the moon godess with a second chance mate? I sighed.

"Its complicated, I was so excited to find my mate. I feel like I should try to hold out a little longer, maybe he will change his mind." I could tell Duncan didn't like the answer, but this was all still new to me.

"Look, I know Sam is my bestfriend and he's the future Beta, but he's never acted like this before and I don't approve. I'll try and talk to him tonight."

"Why would you do that?" I asked suprized. "I mean we really just had our first conversation the other night. Why would you go out of your way to help me?" He looked shocked at my words but stayed quite.

"Look I'm sorry Duncan, I didn't mean for it to come out that way. Talking with you has really helped me, I'm glad we're becoming friends."

"Friends?" He snickered. "We're not friends, I just want my Beta and bestfriend to figure out what he's doing." He said coldly. His change of tone caught me by surprise. I didn't say anything after that and just looked back out the window.

Duncan's POV;

She looked down when I asked.

"I knew I shouldn't have said anything so soon." I thought to myself.

"Its complicated." She said.

"I was so excited to find my mate. I feel like I should try to hold out a little longer, maybe he will change his mind." My jaw clenched when she said that. "She doesn't deserve this." I said to Onyx. He didn't respond, but I looked at Mae.

"Look, I know Sam is my bestfriend and he's the future Beta, but he's never acted like this before and I don't approve. I'll try and talk to him tonight." I could tell she was shocked by what I said, but it was true. I didn't approve on how he was acting, this wasn't like him at all.

"Why would you do that?" She asked suprized. "I mean we really just had our first conversation the other night. Why would you go out of your way to help me?" I was at disbelief with what she said. But why was I trying to help her so badly, it wasn't my place, and just because Sam was acting out doesn't mean I need to go and save the day. I was lost in my thoughts and didn't end up responding.

"Look I'm sorry Duncan, I didn't mean for it to come out that way. Talking with you has really helped me, I'm glad we're becoming friends."

I don't know what happened but when I heard her say friends it made me so angry.

"Friends?" I snickered at her. "We're not friends, I just want my Beta and bestfriend to figure out what he's doing." I said coldly. She looked at me surprised, I was surpized too. Why did I say that? She didn't say anything after that and just looked back out the window. The rest of the drive was silent, when we got to the school and parked. I wanted to appoligize but Mae jumped out so quickly and whispered a small thank you before hurrying inside. I sat in the vechle thinking about what I said. I tried to talk with Onyx but he wasn't responding to me. I spent the whole day lost in my own mind thinking, I kept trying to communicate with Onyx but there was no response.

"Onyx please!" I pleaded. "I need advice." He didn't respond but I could tell he was listening.

"Why did I get so angry? And why am I still so angry?" I asked confused.

"I think you know why." Onyx responded.

"But that's impossible!" I stated. "Sams her mate! I shouldn't feel this way!" It was last class and I had a free period I went to go grab my stuff from my locker when I saw Mae at hers.

"I need to appoligize." I thought, and walked up to her locker. When she sensed my presence she looked at me and went to walk away.

"Mae wait! Can we talk?" She turned back to look at me.

"Sorry Alpha, I'm late to class." She said with an impassive look.

I sighed as I watched her walk way.
