Quiet Meetup
Lucas’ POV***************
I stared at the nurse in disbelief. Never had I imagined that I would one day tell someone what happened with my daughter and this would be their response.
“ Deeper than I think?! My daughter is dead, buried six foot underneath the ground while I am here roaming, trying to find out whatever happened to her while she was here.
“ It is best you don’t know!” The nurse said in a hushed tone.
“ Best that I don’t know? Tell me, do you know what it means to watch your own little daughter being placed into a coffin with people gathered around,sympathizing? Do you know how it feels sitting there, knowing that I didn’t just fail my daughter but I might also fail to give her the justice she deserves?” I asked in a shaky breath.
“ I know…” I started to say.
“ No you don’t! You have no idea what I feel right now! If you probably did, you would tell me wat happened back here in the palace. My wife is missing, my daughter is dead and all I need is just answers.”
She kept silent for a while before gently clearing her throat to speak.
“ You made a mistake coming here, Lucas.”
“ So you know my name? You know me?!” I asked, taken aback.
“ Of course I do. Dainyr told me a lot about you. She told me about your failed marriage, about the time both of you had as a family.”
I flinched at that. “ We just had some disagreement. She stopped me from seeing my daughter.”
“ And did you bother finding a way? Amy called for you on nights while she slept. She wanted to have her father around so bad.”
“ I know I failed her and I wished I never did. I had no idea how to face little Amy. I couldn’t bear ruining every thing that Dainyr tried fixing. I am not trying to justify all I did. I am only here to find out what happened to my daughter. Everyone deserves justice.”
“ Not all cases deserves justice. Like i said earlier, some cases are better left unsolved.”
“ Not Amy. They stole her teenage days from her. She spent years bedridden. She spent years trying to prove that she was strong while all she could have done was continue being the teenager that she was.”
The nurse kept quiet.
I took one more step closer, my voice lowering into a soft tone. “ All i need is more information on what happened here.”
She turned around, her eyes darting around incase anyone is hearing. “ Look, I am only going to tell you this because I want you to know the truth about Amy but if it is about justice, you will have to forget that because there is nothing you can do.”
“ Amy was a special patient here in the palace. She was wounded but that wasn’t all. She was a test subject to Alpha Kira and after Lady Dainyr went missing, she decided it was time she let go of Amy.”
“ What kind of test did you conduct on here?”
“ You know I can’t confide such things to you.” Someone called for the nurse down the corridor. “ I have to go. I have patients to attend to.” M
“ Another test subject?”
She looked at me and turned to leave just as I grabbed by the hand.
“ Promise you won’t tell anyone that I am here and you won’t tell them we met. This conversation never took place.”
“ You would have to be careful, Lucas. Sooner or later, Kira would find out and you would even be in much trouble by then.” She yanked her arm free and hurried out of the room.
Her words rang in my ear as I sneaked back into my room. I sent Jake a message. We need to meet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I stood straight under the sun, the sunlight shining down my eyes. One of the guards walked towards and pointed at three of us.
“ The three of you would go to the market to get the palace needs. One of you should attend to the material needs. New fabrics, new sewing items. Another person would attend to the food items. And know this, none of you should try buying any poisonous thing as this could warrant death penalty.” The guards said.
After the instructions were dished out, we hurried out with the driver. I sat at the window side, staring outside. The outside world still looked normal. Everyone still hurrying around doing their business, trying to meet up with the demands of the Alpha.
I almost laughed at their naivety.
The car came to a stop. The driver turned around and looked at me.
“ Go to the fabrics store and get the most expensive fabrics. The names of the fabrics are written on the paper right there. You would be attended to on time.”
“ Yes sir.” I said, submissively before stepping out of the car. I hurried off into the store and greeted the young lady at the reception.
“ From the royal house.” I said.
She smiled at me. “ Any list?”
I pushed the list over the counter towards her. She smiled politely again before disappearing into the store.
Someone took the other line beside me.
“ Asking us to meet on your first assignment outside has to be a stupid idea.” Jake’s voice boomed out. “ Don’t turn! You surely have some guards watching you.”
“ I am glad you came.” I said, still facing front.
“ What made you request to see me?!” Jake asked, making a tiny circle with his finger on the counter.
“ I would need your help. We meet tonight at the mortuary.” I whispered.
“ What dangerous journey do you seek to embark on this time?”
I could sense the fear in his voice.
“ Those men in the video are from the palace. My daughter was used as an experiment.”
“ Have you ever dug a grave because tonight we will!”
