THE WOMAN IN HIS HEART

The Husband Who Never Loved Me Episode 2: The Woman in His Heart Amelia remained standing in the middle of the bedroom long after Adrian had left. His words kept replaying in her head. “I didn't marry you because I love you.” She wiped her tears quickly. She refused to cry anymore. Not tonight. She had dreamed about this day since she was a little girl. She had imagined a loving husband, a beautiful home, and waking up beside the man she loved. Instead, she had married a stranger who apparently hated her family. Amelia slowly removed her earrings and placed them on the dressing table. Then she looked at her wedding ring. She should take it off. But her fingers refused to move. A soft knock came at the door. Amelia quickly wiped her face. “Come in.” The door opened. It was Adrian’s mother, Mrs. Cole. The older woman smiled gently as she entered. “Amelia, why are you still awake?” “I’m fine, ma.” Mrs. Cole studied her face. “You’ve been crying.” Amelia looked away. “I’m just tired.” Mrs. Cole walked closer and held her hand. “Adrian can be difficult. Don’t let his cold behavior frighten you.” Amelia forced a smile. “Did he ever tell you why he married me?” Mrs. Cole’s expression suddenly changed. For a few seconds, she said nothing. Then she released Amelia’s hand. “You should ask Adrian.” Before Amelia could respond, Mrs. Cole turned toward the door. But just before leaving, she stopped. “There are some things about the past that you shouldn’t believe everything you hear.” Amelia frowned. “What does that mean?” Mrs. Cole didn’t answer. She simply walked out. Amelia’s heart began beating faster. Something was wrong. Very wrong. --- Across the hallway, Adrian stood beside the window with his phone pressed against his ear. “I told you I married her,” he said coldly. A man’s voice came from the other end. “Then why haven’t you started?” Adrian’s jaw tightened. “I’m handling it.” “You better be. Your father’s death wasn’t an accident, Adrian. Her family destroyed everything.” Adrian looked through the glass toward the bedroom. “I know.” “And don’t forget why you chose her.” Adrian’s eyes hardened. “I haven’t forgotten.” The call ended. He slipped the phone into his pocket. But before he could walk away, he heard a noise behind him. He turned. Amelia was standing at the end of the hallway. Their eyes met. Adrian froze. “How long have you been standing there?” Amelia’s heart was pounding. “Long enough.” “What did you hear?” She stared at him. “That you married me for revenge.” Silence. Adrian walked toward her. “Go back to the bedroom.” “No.” He stopped. Amelia looked directly into his eyes. “If you hate my family so much, why did you choose me?” Adrian’s expression became unreadable. “You were the easiest way to get to them.” Her eyes filled with tears. “So that’s all I am to you?” “Yes.” The answer came too quickly. Amelia nodded slowly. “Fine.” She turned around. But Adrian suddenly caught her wrist. She looked back at him. For the first time that night, something flashed in his eyes. Fear. Not anger. Fear. “Don’t leave this house tonight,” he said. Amelia pulled her hand away. “Why?” Adrian stared at her. “Because if you leave…” He paused. His voice dropped. “…they will find you.” Amelia’s face went pale. “Who?” Adrian said nothing. Then his phone rang. He looked at the screen. A message appeared. UNKNOWN NUMBER: “She knows too much. If you don’t silence her, we will.” Adrian’s face changed instantly. He looked at Amelia. And for the first time since their wedding… He wasn’t thinking about revenge anymore. He was afraid for his wife.
