Boom! The impact hit the car.
“Get out!” Ryan said immediately, taking off his seat belt as he spoke.
The two warriors came out of the car as well, looking fierce and grim as they flanked us. This wasn't looking good. So many rogue wolves, there must've been nearly a dozen of them. We were completely surrounded.
My heart beat frantically. What were we going to do? I glanced at Ryan for answers.
“I'm here to pay due diligence, it's not fair to visit just your father and not get to see you, isn't that right, Millicent?” The one I took to be the rogue leader said, striding to the front.
Goddess, I thought, as his words flashed through my mind. How did he know my name? And What did he mean by paying a visit to my father?
The Rogue went on talking. "That's right. Your father was nothing but a little pathetic wimp who couldn't fight back."
Suddenly, I understood. He was the one who had attacked my father on his trip back.
His mere presence sent chills down my spine but I tried to get myself together as I spoke,
“What do you want from us? Why are you chasing after us? I just signed a peace treaty with the Alpha King. You can not attack us.” I was bluffing I knew, but I was gambling that he would believe me.
“And you think we give a f**k? You think you can tell us what to do?”
Before I could give a reply, we heard a loud roar.
The Rogue leader's face darkened. “Show yourself,” he roared.
A faint rumbling sounded and it gradually became louder. We all turned, looking in the same direction.
A massive truck suddenly appeared, stopping a few meters away. The car had tinted glasses so I couldn't see into the car. The doors opened on both sides and two men got down. The hairs at the back of my bristled. This was another set of dangerous men, I thought.
“Who are you? You have no business interfering in this issue.” The rogue Alpha turned to face them.
“If things go south, we'll make a run for it,” Ryan whispered faintly into my ears, his fingers clenched.
I clung to him and swallowed deeply as another man got out of the truck, his aura undeniable. "I'm scared."
Ryan nodded. “I know. He's an Alpha Male,” Ryan said quietly.
“Super strong,”
I watched as a trace of fear flashed past the face of the Rogue leader.
“Who… who are you?” he asked the newcomer, stammering. No doubt he had also felt the man's power.
“You don't need to know that, friend., " replied the new Alpha male. "Who are you and why are you attacking them?” The man asked, his voice eerily smooth and devoid of emotion.
“I call the shots here,” retorted the Rogue leader. “You have no say as to what's happening here. Leave now and I'll pretend I never saw you.” The Rogue leader said, his eyes glanced at the other two men who'd come down from the trunk. He seemed to be weighing the pros and cons of going on with his attack.
“You overestimate yourself,” the man said, his cold voice echoing. He turned to me Ryan; my blood froze; what… What was this? I wondered.
The man's face was covered with a black mask, leaving only his eyes visible.
Ryan stiffened beside me.“Get ready,” he said.
I nodded instinctively and retreated backward.
“Once they start fighting, let's make a run for it. Our mission
is to get to the Alpha King.” Ryan spoke in a low voice, but it was loud enough for the two Warriors to hear and nod in agreement.
“Kill.” The one word was low and charged, spoken by the man with the masked face, and as soon as he said the word, the men with him suddenly shifted into half-wolf form.
“Come on, Milicent,” Ryan yelled. “Let's go!”
But I had thought of something. I would stay and fight. My plan was to get killed. If I did, then I would be free. No longer would I have to deal with the pain I was going through, no longer would I be given as a gift to a man I barely knew.
“No,” I said to Ryan, “I'm not running,"
“What?!" He barked at me. "Don't be stupid, Millicent! We have to get out of here. We're outnumbered! Think about your mission and the pack!” Ryan snapped at me angrily.
“No," I said stubbornly, I'll stay and fight!”
I tried to run towards the fight but Ryan and one of the warriors dragged me back, trying to push me into the car. Before I could free myself, the fighting had gone deep into the forest. I could only hear their snarls.
“Stay put,” The words came from the Alpha with the masked face.
“No,” I stood my ground. “I want to help.” I want to die. "I -"
I broke off when I heard a guttural scream that shook me to the depths of my bones.
I looked back and I saw one of the warriors with an axe embedded in his neck. A rogue had snuck out at him from behind.
Ryan and the other warrior rushed to help. The Warrior got killed easily as the first while more rogues popped out of the bush and surrounded Ryan.
I heard noises behind me and I saw the Alpha present was also battling rogues. That left only me.
“Ryan!” I screamed in fright as I saw Ryan get pinned by the Rogues, their hands tight around his throat. Ryan was looking pale already.
“You f*****g bastard, let him go!”
I rushed forward but was pulled back by the Alpha that was helping us. He shook his head.
“Don't. They'll kill him if you make any move.”
“You'd better listen to him,” called the Rogue. “We will not hesitate to slit your lover boy's throat right now.”
“Ryan, I'm sorry,” I whispered, tears streaming down my face. If only I had listened to him and not thought of myself alone.
We would be fine and safe by now.
“Say hello to your father for me,” the Rogue said and disappeared with Ryan.
