Anna's POV
I’ve barely stepped out of my room when I see Vanessa walking toward me from the other end of the hallway. Her face lights up when she spots me, and I try to act casual even though I’m anything but.
“Are you going out?” she asks as she approaches.
I shake my head, forcing a small smile. “No, I just wanted to walk around a bit.”
That’s a lie. I’m heading straight to Piper’s room. Ever since she came to my room last week, we’ve gotten close—closer than I expected. We spend hours talking, laughing. Piper has become a friend in this strange, suffocating mansion, and I need her more than I’d like to admit.
