Fangs Out, Hearts Racing

The Silver Claw Pack’s guest cabin smells like damp wood and regret, and I’m pacing like a caged animal, my bloody arm throbbing under a fresh bandage. Nora sprawled on a creaky cot, sketching in her book, her red curls a mess as she mutters about “cult vibes.” Caleb’s rejection—“I reject you, Lila Hart, as my mate and future Luna!”—is a fresh bruise on my heart, and Zane’s bombshell, claiming I’m his second chance mate, is a fire I’m not ready to touch. My silver locket’s humming again, whispering danger in a way that’s starting to freak me out. Outside, pack guards prowl, their yellow eyes glinting through the window. We’re prisoners until the Alpha sorts this rogue mess, and I’m itching to bolt back to Crescent Hollow, but Nora’s presence and Zane’s stormy gaze are keeping me here, like it or not. “Lila, chill,” Nora says, not looking up from her sketch. “You’re gonna wear a hole in the floor. What’s with Mr. Scarface out there? He’s got it bad for you.” She means Zane, who’s arguing with Kade by the door, his leather jacket stretched tight over his broad shoulders. My locket pulses when I think of him, and I hate it. Caleb broke me, and now another wolf thinks he can claim me? No thanks. “He’s delusional,” I snap, but my voice wavers. That spark when Zane touched me, his raw “you’re my mate” vow—it’s messing with my head. Right before I complained, the oak door was wide open and Caleb rushed into the room. His well curly blond hair shines, and green eyes was fire. Selene was right behind him with a mischievous smile that looked sharper than her claws. The air smells of bad news, definitely. “Out, human,” Caleb barks at Nora, who flips him off but freezes when Selene growls, low and lethal. I step in front of her, my heart pounding. “Let her be,” I growl with a steady tone. “What is the deal, Caleb?” Another public humiliation?” He smirks, stepping close, his cedar scent twisting that broken mate bond. “You’re not leaving, Lila. The prophecy needs you, and so do I.” His hand grazes my arm, and my locket burns, screaming lie. Prophecy? Lunar Ruins? It’s all bullshit to keep me here, but his eyes are hungry, like I’m a prize he’s already won. Zane rushed into the room so quickly in the blink of an eye. He threw Caleb back with his powerful growl that made the walls tremble. “Keep your filthy hands off her body.” he yelled , his eyes ball glowing in gold and claws peeking through his fingertips. Kade’s at his side, tattoos flexing, ready for a fight. The guards tense, but Selene’s watching like she’s betting on blood. “She’s my mate, Blackthorn,” Caleb fires back, his own claws glinting. “You’re Iron Fang scum, sniffing around my pack. Back off, or I’ll rip your throat out.” The rivalry’s electric, two Alphas circling like wolves over a kill, and I’m the damn kill. My locket’s going nuts, and my sketches—moons, stones, gray eyes—flash in my mind, making me dizzy. “Your mate?” Zane laughs, bitter and sharp. “You rejected her, you prick. She’s mine now, and I’ll die before you touch her again.” His words hit me like a punch, protective and possessive, and my traitor body leans toward him, craving his rain-and-leather scent. “Stop it!” I shout, stepping between them, my hands shaking. “I’m not anyone’s! Caleb, you threw me away. Zane, I don’t know you. I’m not a bone to fight over!” Nora’s at my back, whispering, “Go, girl,” but the tension’s a live wire, ready to spark. Caleb’s grin turns sly. “You’ll stay, Lila. The Lunar Ruins call your name. Ask your locket.” He nods at it, like he knows its secrets, and my stomach twists. How does he know it’s acting weird? Before I can demand answers, a scream splits the air outside, followed by howls—rogues, again. The cabin erupts into chaos. Zane grabs my arm, pulling me toward the door, while Kade shoves Nora behind him. Caleb and Selene shift, their wolves—a sleek golden one and a black beast—charging out. “Stay close,” Zane says, his voice urgent, and I don’t argue as we spill into the village. Rogues are everywhere, mangy and red-eyed, tearing through cabins. Pack wolves fight back, blood staining the dirt, and I’m clutching Nora’s hand, my locket screaming *run*. A rogue lunges at me, jaws snapping, and Zane’s wolf—massive, black, and terrifying—rips it apart, blood spraying my boots. He shifts back, panting, his scar stark in the torchlight. “Lila, we need to talk,” he says, dodging another rogue. “Your locket—it’s lunar magic. You’re not wolfless. You’re something else.” His words are a bombshell, but there’s no time to process—a rogue’s claw grazes Nora, and she screams, blood welling on her arm. “No!” I yell, diving for her, but then the twist hits, and it’s a screamer. Selene’s wolf turns on us, her black fur gleaming as she lunges—not at the rogues, but at *me*. Her claws rake my side, and I hit the ground, pain exploding. Zane roars, tackling her, but Caleb’s wolf is there, snapping at Zane, not the rogues. It’s a setup—the attack’s a cover, and they’re after me. “Traitor!” Zane bellows, his claws slashing Caleb’s flank. Nora’s dragging me back, her sketchbook forgotten in the dirt, her eyes wide with panic. “Lila, they’re working with the rogues!” she gasps, and my brain reels. Caleb? Selene? Orchestrating this? My locket’s blazing, whispering *witch*, and my sketches flood back—moons, stones, and now, impossibly, Selene’s eyes. Kade’s wolf barrels through, scattering rogues, and Zane hauls me up, his arm around me like a shield. “You’re a lunar witch, Lila,” he says, breathless, dodging a rogue. “Your mom’s bloodline. Caleb wants your power for the prophecy. We’re getting you out.” His gray eyes are fierce, his mate bond pulsing through me, and I’m torn—terrified, but drawn to him like a moth to flame. The pack’s fighting, but Caleb’s wolf breaks free, charging us. Zane shoves me behind him, shifting to meet him, their snarls shaking the earth. Nora’s clutching my locket, her voice shaky. “Lila, this thing’s glowing like a freaking star. What’s happening?” I don’t know, but as Zane and Caleb clash, blood and fur flying, Selene’s wolf circles back, her eyes locked on my locket. The village burns, rogues howl, and my side’s bleeding, but I’m done running. Caleb’s betrayal, Zane’s claim, my locket’s secrets—they’re all connected, and I’m not just a wolfless nobody anymore. The moon’s watching, and it’s time to fight
