Chapter 12: Hug

1655 Words
"What? Business trip? Why should I go with you?! There are way more qualified secretaries!" Kirsten shouted. She's already depressed enough thanks to being held in this company for almost three months already and not being able to work in the career that she established and made a solid foundation, modeling. She was contacted almost eight times already by different runaway shows but since she has to work as a secretary until Arcus let her go, she refused all of them. Not to mention, those are the famous ones. Who knows how she always looked forward for those shows the past years and months. And now, another troublesome thing happened to her. 'I'm really unlucky' She was selected as the secretary to accompany the CEO on a business trip to Russia. For other secretaries, it must have been a blessing to be selected since you'll have a break from work and will be able to travel alongside a handsome boss. Not to mention, the salary during the business trip would be triple. However, Kirsten who's not working for the salary, and is not attracted to her boss, it's an unfortunate thing. Thanks to that, she stormed both Adrian and Arcus as soon as she heard the news. Even the employees outside probably heard her scream as well but she didn't care. "Why the f*ck!" "C-calm down secretary Smith." Adrian raised his palm to stop Kirsten from cussing more but unfortunately, that didn't stop her from lashing out her anger "We all know that Adrian would be a better secretary than me! So why?!" "Just because." Kirsten turned her head toward Arcus who nonchalantly answered her like as if she had just casually asked him about what's his dinner later. That made Kirsten even more furious "Just because?! Really?" "..." "I have been enduring everything just to do my work as a f*cking secretary! Eating lunch with you every day which I found nauseous, reading reports for you because you're too d*mn lazy to read. What else? Requiring me to sit beside you while doing some work. You don't know how uncomfortable that is!" Along with these words, she glared at Arcus. But as always, Arcus who was already used to her whining every time, didn't even flinch. Of course, it's not the same with Adrian. No matter how many times he had seen her losing her temper, for him who's just a normal person, Kirsten is like a volcano, ready to burst at any moment. Even his boss is not like this when he gets mad. Thanks to the three months of being a workmate, he also realized the fact that Kirsten is indeed scarier than his boss. "You're losing your mind." Arcus put down the pen that he had been holding for a while now and stand. There, he walked toward Kirsten. Then, as he stand in front of her, he touched her shoulder and looked through her eyes. Resentment is visible in her eyes. Arcus sighed softly. "This is also your work as a secretary. Adrian needs to stay here because he has to manage my office while I'm away. The only one who's free is you so calm down, we don't have any hidden intention." Of course, that's what just he said to calm Kirsten down but deeply, he knew that he can always choose another secretary like Adrian or other employees in the secretarial office. After all, after the Ceo, there's also some directors who were capable enough to replace him, just like when Kirsten and he first met. Arcus just really wants her to accompany him. With her by his side, he never felt empty that he had never felt ever since that incident. Kirsten breathed in as she removed Arcus' hands from her shoulder. "F*ck this work." She mumbled avoiding Arcus' unusual gentle gaze. 'So uncomfortable' She thought. Even though she had been seeing that gaze for almost a month already, she was still not used to it. 'Now that I think of it, he definitely started acting gentle in front of me after that scenario' It started when she was tasked to deliver his work to his house. That day, he didn't go to the company since he wasn't feeling well and Adrian told her that in a year, there's always a day when her boss would get sick and skip a day from work. And unfortunately, she was the only person who was not as busy as others. In the end, he has to drive for a few minutes to hand him all the work that needs to be done by tomorrow. The moment she arrived at his house, a huge mansion specifically. There, an old man guided her to Arcus' room. Of course, she was hesitant to enter a man's room but the old butler reassured her that it was fine. I just have to put down the papers on the table beside his bed. She entered his room. It was dark all over the room but since a few lights were escaping from the blinds, it was fine. There, she walked cautiously toward the table beside Arcus but as she was walking, he suddenly spoke. Her heart pounded. As much as possible, she did not want to deal with him today. "Samantha... I'm sorry..." Unlike his usual domineering voice, his tone is way too softer and sad. Kirsten stared at him. His eyes were closed and his face was covered in sweat. 'He must be having a nightmare' Kirsten thought but she wondered who the hell is Samantha for him to make that kind of face. For a moment there, she thought that she could use it to tease him but when she glanced at his face once again, she felt his pain and decided to just forget the name. Anyway, she calmed her beating heart. A while ago, she thought that she woke him up. It's fortunate that he was just sleeping. And so, she resumed walking. After she reached the table, she slowly put down the pile of papers in her hand but... her right hand unexpectedly bumped into a small glass vase that created a loud noise. As result, all of the cautious movements were put to waste. There, she slowly turned her head toward Arcus and there he is, wide awake. He was shocked as hell. 'F*ck it!' Kirsten cussed inside as she braced herself to explain everything to him. She doesn't want to be misunderstood as a thief so a long explanation is necessary. "Adrian asked me to deliver and hand you these documents that need to be done tomorrow so I sneak inside your room since you're slee-- ahh!" Kirsten's words were cut off by a strong force pulling her toward the bed. It was Arcus. He pulled her close to him hugging her. Kirsten looked at him in surprise but as she closely looked at him, he seems half awake and half asleep. "E-excuse me," Kirsten was flustered by the sudden close contact so she pulled herself from him to create a distance. However, it was useless since Arcus was way stronger than him. "Stay, please... I - I need someone to lean on," Arcus said softly. Hearing his faint voice, Kirsten felt something in him. He seems lonely. And so, she had no choice but to stop pulling away from him. In the end, she patted his back and leaned her body toward him until he fell asleep again. ... Kirsten didn't even know whether he remembered what happened back then since she immediately left as soon as his hand loosed around her body but his change was visible after those moments. "When will it be? The business trip," she asked. She was now calm. Of course, inside she became even more troubled after remembering those embarrassing moments of her. "You'll leave tomorrow n-noon. Your plane tickets were already reserved." Adrian responded. He was really reluctant to answer any of her questions since he was afraid to get her mad again. Thanks to that, he stuttered helplessly. Again, Kirsten wrinkled her forehead. "Tomorrow? And you just informed me today?" "..." Adrian didn't speak. He knew that it was awful of them to inform her just right before the day of the business trip but it was an order from his boss so how could he dare to disobey Arcus? "You didn't even give me time to prepare, what a kind colleague and boss," Kirsten sarcastically said. She was no longer surprised because she knew well how bad her boss is. "You can just take a day off today." Kirsten widened her eyes at the sudden remark of her boss. This is the first day off she had ever had after working in Grey company. Her eyes scanned him from top to toe. She was doubtful at his words. Arcus noticed it so he immediately reassured her. "It's true." With his confirmation, Kirsten didn't speak anymore but she rejoiced inside. Then, she ran toward her bag not even caring about Adrian or Arcus. After all, all she could think of is 'having the freedom to do anything for a day' Looking at her acting like a child, Arcus chuckled. "Cute." At this kind of moment, her sassy attitude completely disappeared and her madness a while ago vanished immediately. If he didn't know that she doesn't have a twin, he would have thought that it was a different person. "I should give her more day off in the future," Arcus said leaving Adrian dumbfounded. Adrian felt betrayed. After all, he had been working for him for three years already but never got a single day off. And yet, this pretty brat lady got one even though she had only started working three months ago. 'As expected, people always discriminate based on human's appearance' Adrian thought. However, Arcus who was unaware of his thought, just smiled at Kirsten's retreating back
