Chapter 2: Thrown to the Darkness

The night was freezing when they dragged me out of the ceremony grounds. I do not know if it was the night air that was cold or if it was just me feeling that way.

I felt empty inside.

I felt numb.

I felt broken.

The guards did not say anything as they took me across the pack borders. They treated me like trash. My white dress got torn as I walked on the ground.

That white dress was the one I thought I would wear as Luna.

I almost. The laugh did not come out.

I said please let me walk. The guard held my arm tighter.

He said orders are orders.

That is how it is in this pack.

Everything is about orders and power and strength.

I do not have any of that.

That is why Kael rejected me.

My chest hurt when I thought about what Kael said.

The bond between Kael and me felt like it was hurting.

It felt like something was being torn out of me.

I put my hand on my heart.

I said to myself I am still Kaels mate.

I know the truth.

When a mate bond is rejected it does not just go away.

It gets all twisted and rotten.

It hurts the person who was rejected.

The guards stopped walking.

I looked up. Saw that we were at the edge of the territory.

There was nothing beyond this point.

Just darkness.

The guards pushed me forward.

I fell on the ground.

It hurt.

I got up slowly.

The guards said do not come

Then they left me.

They just walked away.

No hesitation.

No mercy.

I was alone.

I took a breath.

The forest was scary.

It was dark and quiet.

I was afraid.

Glowing eyes appeared in the darkness.

I was scared.

I tried to run. My body would not move.

I fell on the ground.

Just like Kael said.

The biggest wolf came forward.

It saw me as food.

I could not even fight back.

I cried.

The wolf jumped at me.

I closed my eyes.

Then something inside me happened.

A surge of heat went through my body.

It was strong.

It was wild.

I screamed.

The ground shook.

The air cracked.

The rogues stopped.

They were confused.

My eyes opened.

The world looked different.

It was sharp.

It was bright.

It was alive.

A pulse of energy came out of me.

The rogues were thrown back.

They crashed into the trees.

It was silent.

It was heavy.

It was not natural.

I breathed hard.

The power was gone.

My body was weak.

I said what was that.

I did not understand.

I did not understand anything.

The forest spun around me.

I was dizzy.

My vision was blurry.

I tried to stay awake.

I tried to move.

My body would not listen.

As I fell on the ground I saw a figure.

It was tall.

It was still.

It was watching me.

Then everything was black.
