"Are you deaf? Why did you tamper with my bowl of ice cream?" No," she shook her head violently, her hateful glare burning straight into me like acid.
"What I should be asking," she continued venomously, stepping closer until her irritating breath brushed my face, "is why in the gods' name you’re in Nick’s house!"
My heart slammed painfully against my ribs.
She paused, squinting at me as recognition slowly dawned. Her lips curled into a cruel smile. "Wait… I know you. You’re that girl. The one who interrupted my lovemaking with Nick."
"Why are you here?!" she barked. "Did you break into his house? Or were you sent by Malachi?!" Her voice rose with every word, sharp and accusing.
Before I could even open my mouth to defend myself, she grabbed a fistful of my hair and
