Chapter Three: Lights, Music, Madness

The buzz started days before the party. Posters plastered across University of Uyo’s campus promised music, games, and the “party of the semester.” Tobi was practically vibrating with excitement, Chioma was already planning outfits, and I… well, I was nervous but curious.

The night of the party, the campus hall was transformed. Colored lights flashed, speakers thumped with bass that made your chest vibrate, and laughter filled every corner. Everywhere I looked, people were dancing, talking, or showing off their best moves. I felt a mix of thrill and terror—I’d never been around this much chaos at once.

I found my spot near the drinks table, nervously sipping soda while secretly scanning the crowd. That’s when I saw him—my crush, laughing with his friends, completely unaware that my heart had just skipped a beat. Suddenly, Tobi grabbed my arm. “Dance! Now!” he yelled, dragging me toward the crowd.

I stumbled, stepped on someone’s foot, and nearly tripped over my own feet, but somehow I ended up laughing and moving to the rhythm. Chioma joined, and soon we were all swept into the madness together. The music, the lights, the laughter—it was intoxicating.

But of course, no party is without drama. Someone spilled drinks on my favorite outfit, a fight broke out near the snack table, and Emeka—yes, that same roommate from the hostel—somehow got stuck in a conga line he didn’t agree to. Amidst the chaos, I realized something important: campus parties weren’t just about fun. They were about learning to let go, make memories, and survive the madness with friends by your side.

By the end of the night, my shoes were ruined, my hair was a mess, and I was exhausted—but exhilarated. Walking back to the hostel under the starry Uyo sky, I knew I’d never forget this night. It wasn’t perfect, but it was ours—and for the first time, campus life felt like a thrilling adventure rather than a series of tests and deadlines.
