Chapter 1 

“I still haven’t seen my parents… where are they?”

My secretary hurriedly handed me her smartphone while we were walking to the spacious hallway of my company. Even without glancing, I already have an idea what she’s going to say.

“T-Today is your sister’s Art Gallery Exhibit at Philippine Women’s College, I heard that it is a formal event to showcase the Art student’s skills to those who are veteran in this field, so…”

My feet automatically stopped as soon as I realized that my assumptions were right for the nth time. I’ve already known this but I can’t help to think how unlucky I am to have those bunch of biased parents.

“Do they know about today’s event? Did you inform them?”

Actually, it would be better if my secretary just really forgets to inform them ahead of time, because if is… I would just simply fire her and forgive my parents for ditching my important celebration today. However, …

“…Did they…forget?”

A receive a seconds of silence before my secretary respond. At those couple of seconds, I already know what it means. I felt my heart clench, so I took a deep breath before I continue walking.

“They did call after I message them, they said they will arrive a…little bit…late.”

I did not respond, or react, or scolded my secretary for sugarcoating what my parents have said. No matter what their reasons are, it doesn’t change the fact that they ditch our company’s celebration for a huge business success.

It has always been like this, letting me do my own thing, pressuring me in becoming a perfect heir that will save their ass… I mean their company. And babysitting my step sister, a sister that THEY ADOPTED out of whim! How amusing isn’t.

If I were to be reborn again, I wish to become an only daughter with a simple life, and with a parent which only cares for me!

I stopped on my track again and clench my jaw out of annoyance. Look what my parents do to me, letting me think of something unrealistic, and fictional.

“Ms. Syne? the President of ATC has arrived”

Today is not the day to complain about my irresponsible parents, today is the day I should celebrate my biggest success that I have ever made since I started working my ass to lift our company’s reputation and status. Even though I have a crappy family, at least I have our company that I could be proud of.

“Let them know about my arrival…”

“We have always been so cautions of how capable the Villacenti’s sole heiress way back then. To the point that we made her as our company’s threat, a single 16 years old female heiress, to the veterans’ eyes she is still a kid back then, and it made our pride hurt knowing this simple fact. But today is different, we may start as an enemy, but now we have each other’s back. This event won’t be possible without the help of the Villacente Furniture and Construction Company’s CEO, the very elegant Ms. Mnemosyne Villacente”

I heard the dominos of clapping’s of the guests as they stood up from their seats, I saw Mr. Claw gestures me to come up which I oblige, as an obedient business partner I don’t see any problem following his orders even just for today.

Mr. Claw smiled at me as he lends me his spotlight, I gave him my sweetest smiles before I face the guests. This man always loves to be on the spotlight, he might kindly lend me his spotlight for the meantime but I know for sure that he won’t like it if I have received a lot of attention so I must end this pretty quickly.

“This sir here made me looked like a genius, where in fact I’m far from that, but I appreciate it sir Claw.”

The guest giggles as they remain standing while waiting for my next move.

Those mocking eyes and smiles behind those angelic face, waiting for me to make a mistake and then took advantage of it. Look how obvious they are in my own smart eyes. I grinned as I grab a champagne from the near guest and raised it.

“For the success of the ATC and VFC Company’s Partnership, cheers!”

The guest happily drank their champagne as I mockingly stood up there and watch them having fun with my own event. Our company’s investors immediately gather around me, we’ve talked a lot about business and business and business which made my head ache. There is no end of this, I know how much enthusiastic they are talking about business and stuffs, but what made me more irritated is this sir here who is trying to sell his Good-for-Nothing son.

I know I’m at the age of getting married but I am a woman with elegance, I have the right to choose my own husband. Even if ‘LOVE’ isn’t the reason of our marriage, I will make sure that he is not a pain in the ass, for heaven’s sake.

Seconds later, my secretary suddenly excused herself as she has something important to say to me. Upon hearing it, my headache worsens as I excused myself from the guests.

My parent’s have arrived…together with my ugly step sister.

Their entrance caught a lot of attention as my parents and my step sister elegantly walked like they are in a red carpet. What made me raised my eyebrows is my step sisters’ signature long white gown that she bought ‘USING’ my money.

Yeah b***h, all the company’s earnings are ‘MY’ earnings which this little b***h obviously spent.

“The goody cat is here, with her sugar parents”

I murmured as I’ve watch them approaching me. My step sisters’ smile widens as soon as we met our gaze, she then hurriedly went to me and embraces me lovingly like it will be our last time. At the back of my head, I really want to grab her hair and then ripped her clothes and drag her out, if only I could do that.

“Congratulations my dear sister, I was so confident that you can pull this off! See, mother, father, I told you to have faith of Syne!”

She franticly said as she looked at our parents with disappointment. Look how authentic her acting’s are, it looks so real. I saw how my parents looked at each other and then hold her like they were trying to console her.

“We are wrong Mina, we are sorry”

“We will now believe whatever you say, we’re sorry”

That… is so sweet.

So sweet that it tastes bitter to me.

Are they really going to show off right in my face how precious my step sister is to them? My anger flowed to my head, I gritted my teeth and clench my fist as I tried to hold back my tears and suppress my anger.

Before I could even say a single word, I immediately turned back my heels and walked away. Staying there won’t do any good to me, they didn’t even try to congratulates me. This is so much humiliation, all the guests witnessed how pathetic I am.

I grabbed all my courage to face and smiled at some guest I passed by. The inside makes me feel suffocated, I need to get some fresh air.

I walked all the way from the event center to the balcony, my pace slowed as I’ve watched our guest fascinating the painting that was hanging at the aisle to the balcony. I’ve heard some guest being to enthusiastic looking at a very old portrait of a man from the past. I don’t know which year was it but it looks like it was from the Medieval period.

Out of curiosity, I walked to come nearer trying to take a glance of that portrait. The structure and quality amazes me, how come a painting from a hundred years were still in a good quality? Who put this painting in here?

“Gorgeous right?”

Just by hearing her voice made my blood boil. Why does she have to follow me all the way here?

“The guests seem to love all the murals in here. I heard that these are Mr. Claw’s collections, even though it’s obvious that he just wanted to be complimented, I’m still thankful that I get to see these beautiful paintings”

I did not respond to her, I don’t want to talk to her, it’s very obvious!

“Helious Larrson…”

She whispered and turned to me.

“I heard that he was a wealthy Duke from the past! He swore to the Royal Family his loyalty and was died because of some fraction who betrayed the Royal Family. I forgot the name of it but I remember it has a ‘rose’ emblem ”

She smiles, she stepped forward but then I immediately stepped backwards and faced her.

“Breathing the same to you is already suffocating, don’t make it worst by trying to come closer”

My face were stern, so does my voice. She flinch and stared at me with shock, her eyes redden as her tears slowly runs to her cheeks.

What did I do? It’s not like I slapped her physically, I was just stating what’s obvious. This is why I don’t like her, a fake like her should be burned to hell! And now it even looks like I bullied her even though I’m not!

I was being silence for the past years and tried not to speak with her as much as possible because I have known her personality for years! She will always try to win everybody’s hearts and make me an evil witch! This b***h I want to choke her!

She sobbed, the guests noticed it and looked at me with disgust and disappointment. I was confused as I looked around and saw a lot of people gathering in this place. I shake my head and proceed to the balcony.

It is best to ignore them all.

But as soon as I’ve reached the balcony, a small cold hand held my arms firmly. I flinched as I felt the pain from her hold and I immediately grabbed her hands out of my arms. It slowly reddens, I furiously face Mina and burst my anger.

“What the hell did you do?!”

She then cried even harder

“I should be the one asking that, sister! Why do you always treat me like this, what did I do to make you hate me like this? Is it because our parents cares for me more that you do?”

I felt a pang on my heart as my breath had stopped in a second. My eyes felt like they are burning, my throat is itching to shout.

I hurriedly grab my mirror and faced it to her, I could not help my self but to cry in front of her. My hands was shaky even my voice, I have been keeping this all the time but now I could not hold my anger back.

“Looks at yourself! Look how-skinned you are. Look how delusional you are! Look how you took everything from me! Look at that face!”

I sobbed as I stared to her with hatred.

“Did you even see yourself? How shameless you are to steal everything from me! You are just my STEP SISTER why do I have to share with you?! Look how far your features from us! You are not a Villacente! LOOK HOW YOU LOOKED DIFFERENT FROM US!”

“NO!”

She shouted pushed me forcedly that makes me lost my balance, tripped and fall immediately from the balcony.

Everything slowed back, I saw how our employee rushed to reached me.

I saw how the guests was shocked to see me falling…

I saw Mr. Claw let go his champagne…

I saw my mother’s tears rolled to her cheeks…

I saw father was shocked as he holds my mother firmly…

I looked up and stared at the sky…

How long has it been since I saw this sky this clear, the stars that shines so brightly as the wind blows coldly…

Is this what you called, death?

Am I really going to die?

Will I never see my family again?

The realizations taking me back, as I again looked at them for the last time.

My gaze slowly turned to my sister’s face

Her round eyes were even rounded as she covered her mouth…

She was even more shocked…wait

No…

She was…

My eyes went wide as I realized what actually happened

Even before death, my anger still ranging as I reached my hand trying to grabbed her.

This witch!

In an instant, like a magic that has lost its power, everything went fast again and the only thing that was on my mind while I was falling…

Was my sisters’ delusional smile as she saw me falling…
