Chapter 5: Surprise Visitor

2000 Words
Rebel “Snap out of it man,” I whisper to myself. I don’t know what is wrong with me. I was standing outside my room, after I checked up on Trish. She was asleep, looking so beautiful and sweet. What is she doing to me? Why do I feel this drawn to her? I can’t let this go on. I walked away from the door and headed back to my office. I try to go back to sleep, but my thoughts are all over the place. I found myself outside, getting on my hog, Eve. She is the one girl that never lets me down. So, I decided to go for a ride to clear my mind. I end up at my house, not even meaning to go there. Might as well check on things while I am here. I go inside, and the place is a mess. It looks like Dani had one of her tantrums again. She really is pissing me off. I went to the room, but she wasn’t in bed. I noticed that the closet doors were open, and her clothes were gone. What the f**k? I went to the garage and her car was also gone. That b***h really left. If it wasn’t for the baby, I would say good riddance. But I can’t trust her to keep my baby safe. I really don’t need this bullshit right now. I call her cell, but it goes straight to voicemail. So, I checked the footage from the cameras I have around the house to see what she was up to. The b***h even took all the cash from my safe after she threw her fit. I will have to send someone to look for her. I just can’t seem to catch a break lately. When did my life turn into a s**t show? Two months later… It's been two months since Dani ran off. She hasn't called or made any type of contact. I still haven't found her or that trafficking ring. They seemed to have packed up and left town. But I still have my ears to the ground. I want Gary Lopez dead and I will not stop until that happens. Deep down, I know I feel this way because of what he did to Trish. But I can’t allow my personal feelings to interfere. I have been avoiding her as much as I could. I know she has noticed it, and so has Cookie and Killer, but they know not to mention it. I can see the hurt in her eyes when I brush her off. But I think it’s better to just stay clear of her for now. I am a mess inside, and I don’t need anyone trying to fix me. My main worry is my baby. What if something happens to Dani, wherever she is? The baby is innocent and needs to be protected. My mom is also on my case. She is not happy that I let Dani get away. She knows what Dani did, and she is happy we aren't together. But she is also worried about the baby, like I am. “Nothing yet?” I ask Killer. “For the third time, no. What’s wrong, man?” he asks and I sigh. “I need to find Dani. I am worried about the baby,” I say. “I know, but there is something else that’s bothering you. So spill,” he says, folding his arms. “I just need to find…” I start saying, but stop to answer my mom’s call. “Hola mamá,” [Hey mom] I say in answer. “Come to my place now! Hurry please,” she says and hangs up. “Mama!” I yell, but the line is already dead. I jumped up and ran to the door. “Wait! What’s wrong?” Killer yells. “Something is wrong with my mom. I have to go.” I yelled and ran down the stairs. I ran right into Trish as I jumped down the last few steps. I catch her before she falls and hold her in my arms. “I am so sorry. Are you okay?” “I am fine, don’t worry.” she answers and smiles. I didn't even realize I was still holding her, until she spoke again. “Can we talk?” she asks. I let her go and started walking away. “Later, I have to go.” I yell and run outside. Before I start Eve, Killer gets on his hog. “I am going with you,” he says, and I nod and drive off while he follows. I got to my mom’s place in no time and ran inside. I have my gun ready and so does Killer. The sight that greets me is not what I expected at all. “Mama?” I say as I lower my weapon. “That was quick,” she says, smiling. “I thought you were in danger.” I say as I put my gun away and walked over. “The only one that was in danger was this little one.” she says looking down at the tiny baby in her arms. “Did you call me here so I can help you babysit?” I asked, folding my arms. She rolls her eyes and punches my arm. “No you i***t. This is your baby.” she says as she opens the blanket and shows me the little one. “What?” I ask in confusion, looking down at the baby. “Someone rang the doorbell, but when I went to open it, there was no one. All I found was this beautiful little angel wrapped in a blanket and a note for you,” she says, nodding over at the coffee table. I take the note and read it. ‘Give this to your son. I don’t want it. Daniella’ “What the f**k!” I yell. “Shh, she is sleeping.” mom says as she rocks the baby… my baby. I can’t believe Dani would do this. What if mom wasn’t home? Anything could have happened to the baby. What if one of my enemies got to her? “Is the baby okay?” “I am not sure. I already called Dr. Pascal and asked her to come over.” mom said, handing me the baby. “She’s cute. Congrats man.” Killer says, looking over my shoulder at the baby. Wow, she is so tiny and gorgeous. I can’t believe she is mine. I made this little human. “Why would Dani just dump her like this?” Killer asks. “I didn't think she was this callous, but when I find her, she will pay for this. Anything could have gone wrong.” I answered. I sit down with my little angel in my arms. “She is so beautiful,” I whisper and mom smiles. “She is, she looks like you when you were born,” she answers, sitting down next to me. “Maybe you should do a test, bro. What if it wasn’t Dani that left the baby?” Killer says. “I will, but only for the courts, so I can prove she is mine. I know she is mine, I can feel it. I will give her a good life, far away from her mother.” I say, more as a promise to this little one. She starts to wriggle and then starts crying. “What’s wrong with her?” I ask. As much as I love babies, I have no clue how to look after one. “She is probably hungry. There was no bottle or anything with her. Just her blanket and the note. I will run to the store to get some formula and diapers,” mom says. “No tía [aunty], I will go,” Killer says and runs off. “Thanks man,” I yell after him and get up to rock my baby in my arms. She doesn't stop crying, until mom comes over with a syringe and puts something in her mouth. “What did you give her?” I ask. “It’s just a little water,” she says and takes her from me. I hear the doorbell and rush to open it and find Dr. Pascal on our doorstep. “Hola Rebel, is your mama home?” Dr. Pascal asks. “Yes, come inside,” I say, and open the door wider so she can enter. She sees mom in the lounge and walks in. “Who do we have here?” she asks as she puts her bag down. Mom tells her what happened as she hands her the baby. “I am so sorry, Rebel. But maybe it’s for the best that she is with you,” she says. “Thanks Doc, I think so too. Can you please check her over to make sure she is okay?” I ask and she nods. I watch her carefully as she examines the baby. I hear Killer’s hog pull up, but I am too busy watching to make sure she doesn’t hurt my baby. “Congratulations, judging by the umbilical cord stump, she was born a day or two ago. I am not a pediatrician, so I am not the best doctor for this job. You need to get her to a hospital. It looks like she has a slight case of jaundice and she is definitely premature. She was not meant to leave the hospital so early,” she says as she wraps my daughter in her blanket. “Okay, we will take her. Thank you for coming out,” mom says as she walks doc to the door. “The lady at the pharmacy said that this is the best for newborns,” Killer says as he walks over with a few bags and starts packing everything out. He got bottles, a pacifier, baby wipes, a bottle cleaner and some other baby stuff. I wouldn't even know to think of all that. “Thanks man. Now we just need to figure out how to use everything,” I say and he chuckles. “I will make her a bottle before we go,” mom says, walking into the kitchen with a bottle and formula. “We had to take her to the hospital. Can you get the car ready?” I ask Killer. Can’t exactly load my newborn baby on my motorbike. Mom comes back a few minutes later with a bottle in a jug of water. “It's still too warm,” mom says when she sees my confusion. “She is asleep now, shouldn't we rather just go?” I say and she nods. Killer drove us to the hospital, while I held my little princess in my arms. I let mom do the talking because I hate hospitals and I have no patience right now. I just want my baby seen too. I had to call Zander, a friend of mine who is a lawyer, for help. He agreed to help me get temporary custody of the baby. In just over an hour, Zander got Dani’s medical records from where she gave birth as well as the report on my baby. I should've asked him to search for her when she went missing. He works fast. According to the hospital, Daniella disappeared the day after she gave birth. Why would she do that? She put her own life and my baby’s life in danger. Turns out my angel is a month premature, and she has a slight case of jaundice, so she has to stay in the hospital for the next few days. And I will stay right by her side until she is released. On our second day in the hospital, Zander got a judge to agree to give me temporary custody, until they could locate her mother.
