Chapter 9: I Need To Focus

2000 Words
Rebel I love how well my mom and Trish get along. I find myself watching her a bit too much. But I have to get it together. I am not playing house with this woman. She is here to do a job, and I am supposed to protect her. “Your mom is really great,” Trish says after my mom leaves. “She is, she is my queen,” I say as I start clearing up. “Why don’t you spend some time with Zia? I will clean up.” “You don’t have to,” “You cooked, so I will clean. Enjoy some quiet time with your princess,” she says, making me smile. By the time she was done, I just put Zia down for a nap. “All done. Are you heading out?” she asks when she walks into the lounge. “I am, but only for a bit.” I answer, taking my keys and phone off the table. “Will you be home for lunch?” she asks and then looks at me strangely. “I just want to know if I should get something ready for lunch.” she adds, before I can even answer her. “I am not sure. But you don’t have to worry about me. I will see you later. Let me know if you need anything. Please keep the door locked and don’t open it for anyone, only my guys,” I say and she nods. I head out and go straight to the warehouse. I was in too much of a hurry to get home last night, so I haven't disposed of the bodies yet. I am never this careless, but I just wanted to get home to check on Zia and Trish. I didn’t get much out of the men. They were hired to capture her alive, and then wait at the factory for instructions. Killer was already there when I pulled up to the warehouse. He left when I did, and I was surprised that he didn't question me about it then. But I can tell by the look on his face, he wants to say something now. “It’s not like you to leave loose ends. Was everything okay at home?” he asked me when I walked in. “Everything is good at home. I was just tired, man.” I say, and he just gives me a look and nods, but doesn't comment. Killer is the only one that helps me dispose of the bodies. No one really knows what I do with them, only him. I learned early on that burying bodies is not a plan. I bought this warehouse after it was ‘abandoned’ by the owner. He was the first person I killed here. He was exploiting his workers and assaulting the women. I nearly got caught, because I cut his body up and buried it around the neighborhood. The damn neighborhood strays dug up a piece of him, but luckily, the neighbors are chill. The news came to my ears in time, and we disposed of it. But that made me rethink my strategy. So, I did a bit of research. I have always loved chemistry, and that served me well. I came up with a little concoction that dissolves even human bones. There was a lot of trial and error, but I finally perfected it, and it never lets me down. Just a few drops, and it immediately starts eating away at the flesh and bone. After we disposed of the bodies, we cleaned up and went to the clubhouse to check on things. “Hey boss, where is Trish?” Cookie asks the minute she sees me. “She is at my place with Zia.” “Can I go visit them?” “Like you ever need an invitation to crash my place.” I say, making her laugh. “True, but you have a baby now. We can’t just pitch up and make a mess.” “You are always welcome, Cookie.” “I will go with her to keep an eye on them,” Dagger says, and I nod. “Can I come along too? I want to check on Trish,” Slider says, making me frown. “Just don’t make a mess and don’t wake the baby. We have calls to make.” Killer answers before I can. He grabs my arm and pulls me with him upstairs, not allowing me to say anything. “What the f**k?” I say when we are out of earshot. “I know you want to keep him away from Trish, but what excuse will you give him?” “It’s my house and I don’t want him to be alone with her.” I answer, before I can stop myself. Killer smirks and continues walking and only speaks again when we are in my office. “Firstly, they won’t be alone. Cookie, Dagger and Zia are there. And secondly, why can’t he be alone with her? They are both single, so what is stopping them from being together?” he asks me with one eyebrow raised. “I don’t approve,” “It’s not up to you. She is a grown woman, Rebel. She is free to see whoever she wants. Unless you have feelings for her,” he says. He already knows he is right, and he is just f*****g with me now. “Whatever, I don’t have time for this. I need to call Dom.” I answer and walk to my desk, while he laughs. I called Dom, and he gave me all the information he could dig up. It seems that Gary’s organization is a lot bigger than we thought. Those men were not just hired muscle, most of them were mercenaries. There was only one of Gary’s usual men with them. These mercenaries do not come cheap, and they mainly work for the Cosa Nova cartel in Italy. So why the hell are they doing Gary’s dirty work? Could Trish know something about his operation? I have to speak to her and find out what she knows. “I am heading back to the house,” I said as I got up. “Are you that jealous?” “No you i***t, I need to speak to Trish. I have a feeling she may know more than she thinks. Why else would Gary send Mercenaries after her? They aren't cheap and, according to his financials, he doesn't have the funds for such a job.” “You may be right. Sorry, I didn't mean to f**k with you. But you will need to make up your mind soon. I think Trish likes you and you obviously feel the same. Either you make your move, or lose her to Slider,” he says, making me frown. “She shouldn't be with either of us. She isn't cut out for this life. She deserves better.” “You have to let her decide for herself whether she wants to be part of this life. But you can give her a good life Rebel. Why do you think you can’t?” “I am a broken man with literal skeletons in my closet. She doesn't deserve to be with a killer. The best I can do is make sure that she is safe, and send her on her way. Do you think she will still look at me the same way when she hears about the Bogeyman?” I ask and he sighs. “We do what we must to survive. If it wasn't for the Bogeyman, most of us wouldn't be alive. You are a good man, the best I know. You deserve someone that can fill your life with light. And I think Trish is that person.” “I don’t doubt that she could make me happy. But all I can offer her is danger,” I say, and walk to the door. “You are wrong, man, and you are being way too hard on yourself. Let her in, and let her make her own choices. Life is too short for regrets,” he says, making me stop in my tracks. Could he be right? Would she really give me a chance when she knows what I am capable of? f**k, I don’t know. And right now, I need to handle the threat against her first. I don’t answer Killer, I just leave and drive to my house. I have so many things going through my mind right now, but mostly, I am hoping I don’t see Slider with his hands all over Trish when I get there. I got home in record time, just because of my jealousy. I need to try and keep it together. I have never felt so out of sorts over of a woman, not even Dani, and I loved her with my whole heart. Trish is nothing like Dani though, she could never be. I don’t know if I can let her in. Could I let her see the darker parts of me? Can I trust her with my secret? Not even Dani knew exactly what the Boogeyman does. She always thought they were rumors made to instill fear in people. I was waiting until I proposed to tell her the truth. I am glad I didn’t. She would've ratted me out by now, just to get back at me. I go inside and find Cookie and Dagger in the lounge with Zia. Where the hell is Trish and Slider? “Hey boss, that was quick,” Dagger says when he sees me. “I got some info I need to run by Trish. Where is she?” I ask, trying to remain calm. “Right here, what’s wrong?” Trish says, walking out of the kitchen with Zia’s bottle. She looks like her usual self, and not like someone that was in the heat of passion. I take a deep breath, before I walk over to her. “Hey boss, can I get you some coffee too?” Slider asks as he also comes walking out of the kitchen with two cups of coffee. So they were together. “Nah, I am good. I need to speak to Trish. Cookie, please keep an eye on Zia for a bit,” I say and Cookie nods. “Is everything okay?” Trish asks concerned. “I got some information I need to go over with you. Follow me,” I say, and lead her to my home office. I may be the leader of a Motorcycle Club, but I have other business interests too. I make enough money from them to keep myself and the club afloat and then some. I can thank my friend Zander for that. He helped me make some really good investments. “The men that Gary hired were mercenaries. They mainly work for a cartel in Italy. Is there any other reason you can think of for him to send them after you?” I asked her when we entered my office. “Other than thinking he owns me, I can't think of anything else.” “Are you sure you know nothing about the business he runs?” I asked and she frowns. “No, I am sorry. I always thought he worked at an investment firm. He frequented the coffee shop I worked at and that is how we met. I have never been to his office though. And after he proposed, he kept me locked up in our room most of the time. So I never had a chance to snoop. When I visited him while we dated, we were always alone. But when he started locking me up, there were always men around with guns. I realized too late that he was only playing the part of a perfect boyfriend. ” She answers. I can't wait to kill that bastard.
