Nothing can prepare you for the impact of another person being thrown into you like a baseball being thrown into the catchers glove. I assure you the impact was nowhere near as graceful as that. My head slammed into the wall and what little air I was getting into my lungs immediately got knocked out. The body and I slid down the wall and crumpled into a heap on the ground. When I opened my eyes I knew instantly I was in the middle of the bad things I'd been dreading just moments before. The body began moaning on top of me and when I nudged it aside I saw platinum streaks. Cass. Well s**t.
A quick glance at my surroundings told me there were two other individuals on the ground not moving and at least four more moving in our direction. Peachy. These guys were dressed for action. They were clad in black from head to toe and had tactile belts with various knives, daggers, and was that a sword!? Cass was basically knocked out on top of me and my nose scrunching was a clear indicator she was also bleeding. The just kept getting better. I'm such a lucky girl! Not.
Using every muscle I had and a few I didn't realize we're there, I shoved Cass and her 6' worth of dead weight off of me and got to my feet. Once on my feet got a better idea of the seriousness of my situation. These weren't four regular people trying to mug Cass. Oh no that would be too simple. Nope these were supernatural beings of the vampire and horned demon persuasion. Why me? As they were approaching I could hear them speaking a language I couldn't understand but judging by body language and hand gestures my arrival had just sweetened their pot. I reached for my phone that I always carried in a special garter on my thigh only to find it had gotten knocked out when Cass collided with me. Damn there goes that plan. Okay plan b. I ignored the throbbing of my head and forced myself to remember my self defense training.
When the four were a few yards away I puffed myself up, threw out my hand and screamed "Stop!" At the top of my lungs. That got a dagger thrown at my head which I just barely moved out of the way of. Not cool. Now I was getting pissed and pissed and I don't go well together. One of the lights over the back door shattered. A movement behind me proved to be Cass getting back up. That was promising but I didn't have time to dwell on it since the four picked that moment to charge us. I got tackled by one of the demons while the other two went for Cass. Clearly I wasn't the threat here. Interesting that the vampire appeared to be in charge. Mull that over later.
For the second time in less than two minutes my head got slammed into a hard surface. This time I was fairly certain my head was bleeding from it. Looking up at the demon I cursed the fact that Cauldron didn't have cameras in the back for the simple reason that it was the hooker entrance. If I lived Demetri and I were gonna have a talk about that. I got slammed against the ground again by he demon bringing me back to my preset situation. I immediately began wiggling my legs up to get them between me and my attacker while throttling him with my fists at the same time. I could hear Cass screaming in the same unknown language as the vampire and demons and what sounded like metal on metal ringing in the alley. I hoped she was kicking ass. Demon guy started yelling at me as I kept kicking and fighting to be free of his grasp around my waist where he had tackled me. I landed a solid punch to his cheek and heard the pop of his jaw dislocating.
Go me.
Just as I was gonna go for another whack he caught my wrist, twisted and grabbed the other wrist and pinned me to the ground. I need to take a moment to point out I hate being restrained. By hate I mean I HATE, loathe, and despise being restrained. Let's just say I had a bad experience. That being said when he restrained me something inside of me snapped. Down the alley another lightbulb exploded. As he started to speak I threw my head back and then forward, head butting the demon full force. My surprise head butt caused him to loosen his grip just a little. It was all in needed. Shoving my legs between his body and mine I kicked out with all the force I had in my legs making sure to dig in the spikes of my boots and threw the demon off of me. Sadly, due to his sheer size he didn't go far and started scrambling after me the second he hit the ground. I was scrambling towards the door but knew I'd never reach it in time. Then I saw the dagger. I grabbed it and turned to face the demon. He came at me but I remembered my self defense and twisted out of his grasp. As he flew past me I raised the dagger and drove it up between two ribs and twisted before I ripped it back out.
Blood went everywhere but I wasn't done. As the demon screamed from the wound I kicked him down and jumped onto is back lifted his head to drive the dragger up threw his neck making sure to go through an artery. Ripping the dagger back out again I turned my attention to Cass. She had managed to take down one of the two demons that had attacked her but the other and the vampire remained. To make matters worse she was hurt and judging from the staggering pretty badly. Cass was being circled by the two like prey in the middle of a death circle. The vampire lunged at her and delivered a cut with an extremely long dagger that went all the way down her forearm where she had blocked it.
At a dead run I went for the demon who was the closest between me and Cass. I managed to cut him with my dagger but he threw me off with ease. Now Cass and I were both being circled. Something momentarily drew their attention away from us and then literally another vampire jumped off the roof of the club. Cass used the distraction to go for the demon. He looked up just in time to see her coming and managed to grab her throwing her into the wall again.
Facing the attackers I braced myself to fight while trying to edge closer to Cass. I knew it was futile since the second vampire had arrived but I'm not one for surrendering without inflicting some damage anymore. Then the strangest thing happened. I saw the new arrival walk over towards Cass and squat down to look at her. He reached out to touch her but I screamed a him to leave her alone. The next thing I know with lightning fast speed he was standing between me and the two remaining attackers.
Glancing over his shoulder the new vamp said "Get her out of here!" in a distinct British accent.
Baffled and still preparing to fight I just looked back and forth from him to the two attackers slowly moving forward.
This time with more force "Get her and get the f**k out of here! Now!" he bellowed.
Alrighty. Casting one last look at the three who were now speaking the other language I ran for Cass. She was alive thank God but bleeding from everywhere. I started shaking her and telling her to get up. She opened her eyes and looked at me.
"Sabella?" she said in a hoarse whisper. "Everything hurts."
"I know sweetie. Don't worry I'm gonna get you to a hospital. Everything is gonna be just fine." I tried to sound more confident then I was currently feeling. Internally I was feeling that if we didn't haul ass and get out of the alley we were done for. My keys along with my phone were m.i.a. which meant we had to go through the alley, around the parking lot, and to the front of the bar. We started moving with me basically dragging her along. Gagging on the smell of the blood.
Cass grabbed me around the neck and forced me to look at her. "No hospitals!" she bit out.
"Cass you're hurt we.." I started saying before she cut me off.
"No hospitals Sabella! I need to go home. My doctor is there. Take me home." she said as she was starting to pass out.
I shook her while dragging her screaming "Cass! Cass! Stay with me I don't know where you live! How am I supposed to take you there?!" Behind me I could hear the vampires and demons fighting. Metal on metal and the shriek of pain. Must move faster. As we neared the mouth of the alley Cass reached in her top and withdrew a fab car key to her Audi.
Whispering she said "Get in my car and hit home on the GPS. It'll take you where we need to go. Don't stop until we get there. The key code is 1492* for both doors." then she passed out. Her full weight nearly brought me to the ground and to a stop but I heard foot steps in the alley. With what little strength I had left I dragged Cass to her car which was conveniently parked right at the mouth of the alley. Using the key I unlocked the car and shoved Cass in the back seat passenger side where she slumped over, slammed the door and ran around to the drivers door literally jumping inside. I started the car and slammed the gas down while turning on the GPS. I peeled out of the parking lot onto the main road praying I was going the right way. I gripped the steering wheel until my knuckles were white and noticed I was still holding onto the dagger. Absently I shoved it through the pouch my phone usually occupied on my garter. The GPS finally loaded and I hit the home button. Blessedly I was going in the right direction now all I had to do was follow the directions and think about what the hell just happened.
