Well apparently in this house witch is a dirty word judging from the reaction that Cass got when she told them I was one. Before I could say anything the red head threw back her head and shrieked before lobbing an energy ball right in mine and Cass's direction. Oh hell no. So maybe this is a one witch house. Rude.
I shoved Cass behind me and out of harms way and caught the energy ball in my hand. Hmm. Well that was interesting. Several light bulbs exploded throughout the room. The whole room looked at me with stunned expressions. Looking at the ball I had I snuffed it out in my palm. As I did red up and charged me. Bring b***h.
She was going high I could tell so I drove my shoulder into her stomach flipping her over my shoulder. She tried to get back up but I slammed her right back down. No b***h we need to chat. I wrapped one hand around her throat and using force and strength that came from I don't know where I held her there.
"Here's the 411 b***h. You wanna rumble with me, no problem. I will be happy to knock your skanky ass back to the dark ages. If you ever, ever place Cass or anyone else I hold dear and love in harms way I will annialate you and use your remains as tinted moisturizer. Are we clear?"
She couldn't speak due to my constricting her air way but she did manage a curt nod.
"Good." I looked up at the faces around me. Cass looked impressed and started to move toward me. The crunching under foot made her pause. "What's with the glass?" She asked.
"Two things sweety. One you are only partially correct." I eased my hand off reds throat and pulled her up to her feet then walked to Cass. She still looked weak.
"Glass tends to explode when I loose my cool. I am a witch but a non practicing witch. Unless you count laying red brick dust in the doorways and cleansing the house with burning herbs as practicing. To answer your question and to be both technically correct and completely honest I'm a halfie. Half witch, half fury." I've never seen so many open mouths and wide eyes directed at me.
Red looked me over, almost inspecting, rubbing her throat. "I've know many witches of mixed heritage but only two who were half fury. You resemble Rebecca."
"How do you know my mother?" I asked completely shocked.
"She was the head of one of the covens many years ago. She and her sister Sybil until Rebecca's death and Sybil's meltdown. I vaguely remember her daughter, and Sybil had three children I believe."
Cassady's mom had been eyeing me since red mentioned Sybil's name. When she spoke she asked "You are related to Sybil Montgomery? Your cousins are the Hunters?"
Looking between her and red in complete and utter disbelief I replied "Yes Sybil is my Aunt and my three cousins are often refered to as the Hunters." Taking a breath and looking at red I said "What coven? There was never a coven. I mean I know that they were witches but what coven? We had book club maybe you came to that."
Red looked at me slightly confused. "Your mother was the head of her coven, an extremely powerful one. I went to a few coven gatherings at her house. I can see that you don't believe me. Ask Sybil she will confirm."
Well she was right about me not believing her. Asking Sybil was another matter. My Aunt Sybil suffered a sever breakdown after my mother died that had left her in a state that fluctuated between lucid and coo coo for cocoa puffs. Before my mother died, Sybil's husband had disappeared mysteriously. Loosing her soul mate and then her sister had been too much for her.
Looking at Draco I asked for the phone and what time it was. Still staring daggers at me that may have had a hint of curiosity to them, he handed me the phone, gave me the time, and asked why I needed it.
"I need to know what time it is in New Orleans before I call Sybil." In reality I was more concerned about what frame of mind I'd find Sybil in if she answered. Placing the phone on speaker, because I could tell Draco wanted me to, I dial her number.
1 ring, 2 rings, 3 rings and she answered.
"If youre calling to sollicite me for something it better be good or raunchy." Sybil purred into the phone. "Otherwise I shall have to hang up." she concluded.
"Nothing raunchy today Aunt Sybil. Just Sabella."
"Oh hello my sweet. I was thinking of you today while I was tending to my white roses. I know they're your favorite. The hunters should be back soon. They had a successful trip. How are you doing sweety?"
Hallajuah she was lucid. "Um I'm okay. Listen Auntie Sybil, I need to ask you something. It's really important. Please be honest."
"Go ahead dear I'll answer as best I can." she said.
Bracing myself I said "When I was little and you and Mom had book club at our house...was that really your coven? A coven that Mom was the head of? That she forgot to tell me about after she told me the family history? "Breath in and out Sabella.
"Yes dear. Why do you ask."
I caught the smug look from red before continuing. "Are you serious Aunt Sybil? Mom was the head of your coven? Seriously?" I needed to sit. Or scream.
"Oh yes sweety. She was our leader. After she died a few tried to take her place but no one could ever replace your mom. Now why are you asking me?"
"Well..." I started but red cut me off.
"Hello Sybil, it's Calista."
My Aunt hissed. Literally. Hissed into the phone. "Sabella you stay away from that red headed b***h! She will kill you and try to take your powers!" She was yelling into the phone.
Okay enough. I grabbed the phone and turned off speaker. "I don't have any powers Aunt Sybil. What the hell are you talking about?"
"Sabella this is not a conversation to have on the phone. I have to go. Stay away from her." Then she hung up.
I hung up the phone and looked around the room. Most of the people there looked as confused as I felt but Draco looked at me with pure disdain. This just gets better and better. My head was starting to hurt. Before I could begin to addres the numerous things I just learned I saw Cass sway. Throwing the phone at Draco, because his scathing look was seriously starting to grate on my last remaining nerves, I just managed to grab her arm to steady her. Enough.
"Time to go and rest Cass."
"I'm good. We need to sort this all out." Again she was wobbly but had that unmoving tone in her voice. Not tonight.
"Look here you apparently pixie pain in the ass. You were seriously injured just hours ago. I realize your all up in the mystical healing but you aren't healed you're healing. As in not done yet. Now turn your stubborn ass towards the door and start moving missy." She opened her mouth as if to protest but I shot her look of pure venom and she immediately closed it and turned toward the door. Abigale giggled. I liked her. Looking at Draco who was eyeballing me with a curious expression I said "We can finish this pow wow later after she is rested." I'm fairly certain he was going to say something but in one of my rudest moments of my life I turned my back to him and started assisting Cass. Miss Manners would disapprove. She could also suck it at the moment.
