"You feel up to talking?" I asked Sabella. She had taken everyone by surprise stating Draco wasn't a vampire. Which he isn't. But she shouldn't have been able to tell that. After he complied with her cousins request she has made two more calls. One to her Aunt who did not answer and the other to Demetri to inform him of the evenings events. He was not pleased and wanted her to go to him stating he could protect her better than Draco. That had sent Draco on the war path with he and Demetri screaming at each other in Russian. The conversation had come to an end when the word witch had been thrown around by both men and Sabella had caused a lightbulb on the desk to explode and a spark had caught some papers on fire and all the furies had begun to growl. We really needed to get her to learn magic and to control her powers before she blew the house up. Thankfully no one pressed her about knowing Draco wasn't a vampire. Now we were laying down on the huge bed of the room I had been in when I was hurt.
She rolled onto her side. "Sure." She said. She was figity. Poor thing, bad two days and she had no idea what was coming. All around the bed her furry babies were trying to settle into their new digs. Storm was laying on my side, Daemon was at the foot, and Shadow was next to Sabella. "What you wanna talk about?"
"Honestly I'm not sure where to start. Your cousins are intense. Their reputation does them justice. Are they always like that?" The Hunters, as they were know through the magical community, were three siblings who hunted down demons, vampires, and any other magical being that did harm to humans or to other magical creatures. They were like magical mercenaries and very powerful witches.
"Oh no that was subdued for them." Sabella said almost laughing. "Seriously?" I asked. "Yeah. I've seen them crashing through a second floor room taking down someone. The fact that only two arrows came through the house says Orion was holding way back. Same for the amount of blood in the kitchen. The girls were holding back too."
Wow. "And the bickering?" She did laugh then. "They are always like that. You have to understand that we are all so close in age, exactly a year between each of the three of them and a year between me and Orion and two between me and Angelika. We all share a birthday. Celeste and I were born in the same room."
"Serious? I didn't think that was possible." I said. "For normal people no, but my family isn't exactly normal. Celeste is the oldest. Exactly a year later Orion arrived and exactly a year after him Angelika came. And when I say exact I mean exact down to the hour and minute. Sybil said it was a powerful magic that made the connection between them stronger. When I do practice magic with them it's...intense. Each is magically formidable on their own but the three of them together doing witchy things is down right terrifying." The rumors said as much. Magical mercenaries.
"Why do you think the demon tried to take you?" This was really bothering me. I kept going over tonight and the night before and just couldn't understand why the focus had been changed from me to her.
She sighed and flipped onto her back. "I just have no clue. I've never had issues with the demons or the vampires. I know most of the vampires in the area and I've never seen either of the vamps before. What use I am to them I've no clue. It's not like very many people know I'm a witch and even if they did it's not like I practice magic or have any substantial powers." She turned again. "Maybe when Celeste does the tarot reading I'll get an answer to that. Celeste with her tarot cards are nearly infallible kind of like my gut feelings." We were both quite for a few minutes.
"Okay let's have it." She said. "What?" I asked her. Poking me with her finger she said "Duh, Cass! The vampire! Good grief woman a hottie with an accent drops out of the sky and appears at your side out of thin air and you got nothin?! Please. Now spill it."
Oh where to begin. "I'm really not sure what the deal is. It's like...he's trying to protect me. And well that just nuts! I've near seen him before and most of the magical community knows I'm not the biggest vampire fan so why? Why would he just show up and try to help me? What's in it for him? I've been in fights nearly my entire life so why show up now. I just don't get. Do you think your cousin could see anything with the cards for me?"
"I'm sure she could. I can ask her if you want." I nodded. "Soooo...." she said. "So what?" She actually kind of growled at me and said "You can't tell me you didn't notice he was flippin hot with a sexy accent?"
Gulp. Oh I noticed alright. Possibly a little too much. At a minimum 6'7" the vampire was a glorious sight to behold. A body of pure muscle and his light golden skin would give any woman pause. He had dirty blonde hair that was pulled back into a tight ponytail. His face looked like it was hand sculpted to perfection. You could follow the line of his high cheek bones all the way down to lips that appeared to pout even in the midst of a fight. Yet even though she had fantasized about those lips his eyes were what caught her. A smokey grey color the like of which she had never seen. They were so captivating yet appeared so sad, maybe even lost. When they locked eyes it had hit her hard. The accent, which she had noticed while they were fighting due to his swearing, was a package bonus.
"Well?" she prompted.
"Oh I noticed. It's just hard to get past the vampire part. If I over look that though..." I started going to the fantasy land she had created while Sabella was in the shower. "Sexy man with an accent that are only available in wet dreams?" she asked. "Sabella!" I swatted at her and she laughed. "What!? It's totally true and you're not denying it either. I know the vampire thing bugs you but I can say with all honesty and certainty that his concern for you was genuine. Sabella gut feeling garunteed." That was relieving to know. "Honestly" I said "I kinda got that feeling from him. It's weird because like I said I'm not really pro vampire since they have been the enemy for so long but I felt this pull towards him. It took every bit of resistance I had in me not to run out of your house after him. I've never felt such a strong pull before, it's bizarre." I sighed. "I think I just need to sleep and you definitely need to sleep."
Yawning in agreement she turned over again to pet Shadow and then Daemon and Storm. Daemon went back to the foot of the bed and to my great pleasure Storm came back to my side. I gave her a scratch behind the ears and then settled myself to slowly drift off to sleep, trying not to dream of an enemy who also appeared to be my protector.
