chapter 4

Corbin pov.

ever since the other night I pulled back from texting Emma as much. there for a couple days we had been talking all day then she brought the food and bath salt over to the shop I just don't know. I know I find her attractive and I know we weren't actually doing anything bad but I just think this is for the best.

if mark found out I'd been basically flirting over text messages with his sister he'd probably want to kick my ass. and I wouldn't say I blame him.

her dad brought her to pick her truck up but I conveniently stayed underneath a different vehicle and Mr Jim told them I was busy.

after they'd left he kicked my foot grabbing my attention.

he asked what was going on and let's just say I tried lying to the old man but he just kept looking at me like I was stupid. so I finally told him my feelings/thoughts. he of course doesn't think I should run for him that maybe Emma would be a good distraction for me but that's a big negative not happening.

I tried pulling out of going to the lake with them this weekend but mark wouldn't have it said we needed to bro time.

so that's why I'm currently standing probably with my mouth open staring, she does a little dance at the end of the dock laughing without a care in the world with Casey her body on full display in her bikini as she jumps in the water.

" bro! I'm glad you made it finally!"

mark says from the porch thankfully I have shades over my eyes so I'm hoping he didn't see my googling at Emma

" you didn't actually give me a choice"

I reply joking and he laughs as he grabs my bag from me hand handing me a beer.

I'm definitely gonna need it if this is what I'm gonna have to look at for the next couple days.

" come on man I'll show you your room then you can change into your swim stuff. dad's gone to the store but shouldn't be long."

I nod at him I don't have a reply, swimming another reason I didn't want to come. unlike everyone else I don't exactly want to take my shirt off and show the world my chest.

after he shows me my room I get changed into my swim trunks but also throw a shirt on downing my beer and grabbing my hat and shade before I head down the stairs.

I make my way to the dock where they have chairs set up and the girls are floating on tubs in the lake I take a seat by mark

" another one?"

I nod as he hands it to me.

I sigh out letting the sun hit me I let my head fall back and close my eyes it feels nice out today.

" told you this is what you needed"

he says pushing my shoulder and I laugh

" honestly it is nice we haven't been to the cabin together in ages"

he laughs

" yeah last time was before you shipped out. pretty sure we got wasted that weekend"

I laugh along with him as we talk about our past.

they girls got out of the water and Mr Marshall came back with groceries.

so we were all sitting around just talking and enjoying a drink while Miley took herself a quick nap.

thankfully Emma had pulled a cover up over her bikini so I wasn't having to tell myself evert two seconds to stop looking at her body.

Emma pov.

weekend at the cabin is definitely what I needed. I've had a couple drinks and relaxing. Corbin and I haven't really spoken directly to each other just conversation with everyone.

he looks great he got his hair trimmed up and trimmed the scruff on his face a little. I can only hope that that means he's feeling better.

I know he's having a hard time being home and it really isn't my business but I do worry about him and I know mark does.

Casey and I walked inside to start the patties for burgers when she brought it up

" so how are things with Steven today?"

I've been avoiding this conversation because I know she doesn't like him. I had told her what went down the other day also

I shrug my shoulders fixing the patties

" it's whatever I guess I don't know. he claimed they weren't actually together at the bar. but still refused to come to the lake with me saying he already had plans."

she sighs out and I know she's trying hard not to freak out

" seems to me like he can't spend time with you unless he wants s*x"

" yeah well I told him I need some time to see if I still wanted to be in this relationship "

her eyes go wide and she's silent for a moment,

" I'm glad you are finally thinking about yourself. you can do so much better."

I just give her a shrug.

we finished the burgers and walked back out and I wanted to turn and go directly back in but I knew they'd already saw us. sage was standing there in a skimpy little swim suit with her hand on corbins arms smiling as they talk.

I heard Casey groan beside me

" hey girls! I had no idea I'd see y'all here. I was just telling Corbin he's gotta come in the bakery sometime now that he's back "

sage says excited her eyes never leaving Corbin

mark chuckles at the situation but I want to rip her hand off of her body for touching him

" it's great to see you too sage"

I say politely

and this time she gives me one of her big smiles

" I was just with Stevey last night. is he here?"

she questions and I roll my eyes

" um no he isn't he already had plans this weekend"

she throws her hair over her shoulder

" oh bummer. we had a blast last night"

I just nod

" alright guys I've gotta go fund my friends before the show starts" she looks at Corbin and squeezes his arm

" you don't be a stranger"

he gives her a smile and says something I don't catch because I've already started walking away making my way to get my drink.

Casey follows sending me a look I know she wants to know if I'm okay but no, no I'm not okay because I'm more upset about that skank being all over corb than the fact that I know she was with my boyfriend last night.

the guys cooked and Miley ran around playing until it was time to eat. I felt eyes on me at certain times but never got the nerve to look and see if it was Corbin or my brother. then it was time for the fireworks. we made our way to a spot across the water a little ways away on the gator knowing Corbin didn't need to be to close to the noise

Corbin pov.

I was really nervous about the fireworks. not sure how my mind and body will handle it but I don't want to seem like a p***y so here we are.

the first bang made my body jump, thankfully I was standing behind everyone else. the second bang I held my hands into fist. my mind trying to flash back to war. I close my shaking my head, breathing heavily.

then I feel it. slowly her soft small hand clutches mine my eyes come open on their own and I look down to see sunshine giving me a shy smile. I. breath again holding onto her hand as she rubs small circles on my wrist. I look down at her once more but she isn't staring at me like I'm a freak or like I may jump out of my own skin, no she's smiling her beautiful breathe taking smile at the sky watching the pretty colors bounce off her face.

before I even realize it I've stared at her the whole time and the show is over I'm brought from my moment when mark clears his throat his brows scrunched as he sees our hands together.

I quickly pull my hand from hers and she blushed slightly.

" you make it through okay?" mark asks

and I nod not sure what to say my eyes find Emma's as she give me a small smile handing us all some beers for the ride back to the cabin.

mark pats my shoulder

" proud of you man"

we made it back to the cabin and the girls got the little one cleaned up and in bed while us guys sat by the fire with the radio on low.

" I'm okay guys I'm not gonna break"

I say jokingly because I can tell they are tense

mark chuckles

" man. I'm trying not to treat you different but just don't want to make you have any set backs"

I nod at him in understanding

" as of right now I'm good bro"

he nods.enma comes out smiling ear to ear as she pulls her dad to his feet, he spins her around and they laugh as the dance together.

it brings back so many memories, they used to dance in their kitchen while they made dinner. Mr Marshall taught me how to dance. I was Emmas first dance with a guy besides her brother and dad and she was my first dance with a girl.

even though she was so young we still enjoyed her company even back then she's always been a ball of energy

I had just finished off another beer when she took me by surprise

" come on corb. surely you can still dance"

she says playful, I can tell she's a little tipsy. I shake my head as I try to pull my hands from her l, I'm not even sure if my leg can do that, and I'm sure I'd look like hell even trying to figure that out it isn't something I wanna do in front of her.

" pleease Corby" I look at her and she's batting those ridiculously long lashes at me. God why'd you have to bless her with those lashes and eyes??

I sigh

" sunshine I don't know if my leg can handle dancing with you"

she giggles and I hear her dad and brother laugh

" give the ma. a break sweetheart we aren't all going and full of energy like you"

her dad tells her and I'm greatful for him at this moment.

but then I take one last look at her before she goes to turn and I can't take it, I can't be the reason she's upset.

I hop up and grab her hand

" just go easy on me okay"

she giggles

" no promises"

she pulls me to the open space her and her dad danced in a moment ago. Casey and mark are now dancing.

marks spinning her around and I can only hope I can do that for Emma now.

she starts a slow two step and sit a slight limp I'm able to keep up with her, she swings her hips smiling from ear to ear with her eyes closed her face to the sky has the song come to an end I give her a big spin then spin her body into mine dipping her low praying my leg doesn't give out under me.

she giggles making my heart beat faster

as we both straighten up

" knew you still had it"

she smiles at me my hands still on her waist and hers on my chest

" pretty sure you just danced and I spun you"

she smiles making me smile in return

" that's fine with me I like being the star"

she whispers blushing a little as we pull from each other.

I take my seat back grabbing another beer avoiding me Marshalls eyes on me looking out at the lake as the girls are now giggling and dancing together.

I've gotta put some space between Emma and myself. I've gotta stop these feelings.
