My lungs contracted painfully as I sat far away from him inside the carriage. The air was tense, and it certainly wasn't getting any better.
He rode on horseback when he arrived at Willow Creek Pack, yet he insisted on sitting inside the carriage with me.
My stomach churned in disgust. He already got what he wanted but that wasn't enough for him. He obviously wanted to squeeze life out of me again.
If I hadn't been threatened by Gregory, I would have done everything in my power to escape. Well, that plan hasn't been erased permanently.
I wouldn't stay with him for long or even give him the opportunity to kill me again. The only difference was that my escape plan had been delayed.
I could cave in now but that doesn't mean that I've suddenly wiped out the grudge between us.
Throughout the ride, I shut my eyes and my hands remained balled into tight fists. Yet, I could feel his eyes boring holes into my skin.
Ronan knew that I didn't like him. My hatred for him was rather obvious, yet he insisted on claiming me. For that, I would make his life a living nightmare.
After he brutally executed me in my previous life, he stopped being a mate to me. The moon goddess gave me a second chance but chose not to abolish the bond between us. This time, I would destroy it myself.
It would have been better if Ronan rejected me. I could deal with the humiliation but cutting my life short because of what his subjects said was out of it.
Not only did he ruin the mate bond between us in that timeline but in this one too. It doesn't matter if we both get many more chances, this broken bond can't be mended.
If he could choose his Pack members above me, it showed that the moon goddess had made a mistake with us.
The farther we got away from Willow Creek Pack, it reminded me that we were getting closer to the place I dreaded the most. The way I once thought would be my refuge.
I clasped my hands together. Pain shot through my hands as my nails dug deeper into my skin. My heartbeat quickened.
I could feel beads of sweat forming on my forehead. Maybe it was because of the hot air in the carriage or because my wolf was raving mad.
It was a bad idea sitting with Ronan here too but if I insisted on him staying away or riding on his horse, he might become delusional, so as to think that he was having an effect.
Left to me, I saw him as an enemy. But my wolf seemed to have forgotten the ordeal we went through. However, I had no problem reminding her.
"I still have an effect on you," he suddenly spoke up. I had no intention of replying, so I ignored him totally.
He insisted on bringing me to the capital, and I would spend everyday making his life miserable.
It wasn't surprising that he noticed. His eyes had been on me all along, or perhaps it was his wolf that made him realize how mine had become restless.
No matter what any of them had in mind, the decision was up to me and nothing was changing.
As if on cue, my wolf stirred violently in my head. My forehead creased into a frown. I clenched my jaw as my head ached.
Somewhere between ignoring him and struggling to control my stupid wolf, I was still able to sense when he moved closer. Without wasting time, I scooted farther and made sure I maintained the distance between us.
"Your wolf is clearly restless and that means that our bond isn't broken," he added like everything was normal.
The nerve of him.
"Do not delude yourself," I growled out with my eyes still shut. "The bond may have survived, but it means nothing to me." I paused. "As for accepting you, I'd rather be a rogue than be caged by you." I spat.
He sighed heavily. "I never planned to cage you," he tried to persuade me but it was useless.
I scoffed. "Says the man who took me against my will." I didn't bother to hide the sarcasm that laced my voice.
Who exactly did he think he was dealing with? A naive child who was love starved? I did fit into that category in the past, but not anymore.
"Listen, I'm trying to reason with you," he seethed frustratingly. His calm mask was cracking but that wasn't enough. I want it all to crumble.
"Don't reason with me. Can't you see that I don't want to talk to you? You repulse me." I glared at him angrily. "I agreed to come with you, not because I'm scared of you or because I surrendered..."
"It's obviously because of the edict," he chipped in rudely, completing the statement.
It was a good thing that he knew his place.
"Since you know, it would be better not to get into each other's business," I snapped and looked again. Hoping that would shut him up.
He crossed his legs and folded his arms. "I know that you hate me, but you'll have to live with the fact that you're stuck with me. I don't plan on leaving you, Selena. You're mine, and no one... not even the moon goddess can break our bond mate."
My hands shivered. Chills ran down my spine at his cold voice and the threat. For the first time in a while, fear coursed through my veins.
Ronan was a ruthless man and if he was bent on keeping me with him, it won't be easy to escape his grip.
"Do not speak of mate bond like you value it. After all, I will only be one of the many attendants in your Pack." I fired back as I tried to sound firm.
The corners of Ronan's lips tugged into an evil smirk. His eyes glistened with mischief.
"Who says that you would be my attendant?" He questioned calmly.
I tilted my head to understand what he was saying. If I wouldn't be an attendant, what plans does he have for me then?
As if he read my mind. He dropped the bomb that I never thought about.
"You will live with me in my residence!"
For several seconds, I could only stare at him.
His residence?
Absolutely not.
Living under the same roof as the man who had killed me in my previous life wasn't merely dangerous.
It was madness.
